About
HolstenTherme is a leisure bath, sauna and fitness complex in Kaltenkirchen, in the Segeberg district of Schleswig-Holstein about 30 km north of Hamburg. The operator divides the house into a WasserWelt (water world), a SaunaWelt (sauna world), a wellness studio and a fitness studio, each of which can be booked separately or in combination through a tiered tariff based on length of stay. The bathing side is tropical in theme rather than curative: the indoor ErlebnisBad is held at a nominal 32.0 °C, as are the ParadiesInsel hall, the outdoor UrlaubsPool and the water in the Karibik slide, while the 312 m² Sportbecken is kept cooler at 28.0 °C, the whirlpools at 35.0 °C and the small KinderKaribik at 33.0 °C. Air temperature in the main halls is regulated to the same 32 °C as the water. Two slides of 42 and 92 m run into the landing pool, and a separate warm-water open-air bath, opened on 8 May 1999, is reachable from the Palmengarten between May and the end of August in suitable weather.
The thermal element of the house is the outdoor SoleRelaxpool, a 69 m² floating pool filled with six-per-cent Sülbecker natural brine pumped from 400 m below ground at the foot of the Harz mountains and delivered to Kaltenkirchen. The operator sets the pool at a nominal 32.0 °C, describes a bathing sensation at 33 °C, charges a supplement of EUR 2.50 per 20 minutes and recommends that a single immersion not exceed 20 minutes. Bathing costume is required before 20:00 and the pool is textile-free afterwards. The company states explicitly that it offers only independent bathing in the brine and no therapeutic or medical treatments, and that children under five are not admitted to the pool.
The SaunaWelt is arranged as a themed circuit spanning roughly 45 °C to 100 °C, with six named cabins — the African Kalahari sauna at about 65 °C, the Japanese Shitau meditation sauna at about 75 °C, a Himalayan salt-gallery sauna at about 85 °C, the South Seas Pengalaman at about 75 °C, the Mexican Espiritu at about 95 °C and the Finnish Suomi earth sauna at about 100 °C — plus the La Mamounia oriental steam bath and scrub ritual. A published schedule lists 22 pour cycles.
The house opens Monday to Thursday and Sunday from 10:00 to 22:00 and on Friday and Saturday to 22:30, with holidays following the weekday pattern; admission closes 60 minutes before the end of operation. The ParadiesInsel keeps shorter hours from Monday to Thursday, and on the first Friday of each month the sauna runs until 01:30 under the name Sauna ohne Ende.
