Freizeitbad Winsen (Luhe)
The municipal leisure bath at Bürgerweide in Winsen (Luhe), with heated indoor and year-round outdoor pools, a Black Hole slide of over 60 metres and a five-cabin sauna world around a koi pond.
About
The bath the database files as Die Insel is named on its operator's own pages simply as the Freizeitbad, run by Stadtwerke Winsen (Luhe) GmbH at Bürgerweide 5, 21423 Winsen (Luhe); the name Insel appears nowhere on the site, on the bath, sauna, hours or FAQ pages. The water is plain heated water: no spring, well, brine or mineral content is claimed anywhere on the operator's pages, and the only brine on site is the mist periodically released inside the salt sauna.
The bath page is headed "Vier Becken – und zig Lieblingsecken!", four pools, but then enumerates more than four basins, so the count and the enumeration on the same page do not agree. Enumerated are a parent-and-child shallow-water area at 32 °C, at most 30 cm deep, with a small slide and a rivulet; a round flow pool reached from the indoor swim-out channel and a larger round outdoor pool beyond it, both kept at a weather-dependent 30 °C all year and fitted with a water spout and a massage jet; an adventure pool of about 137 m² at 31 °C and 1.30 m deep, with a flow channel, massage jets and a neck shower; and a five-lane sports pool of 25 m lanes at 28 °C. A modern Black Hole slide runs over 60 metres at an average gradient of 10 per cent, with light effects, a choice of programmes and ten touchpoints for a score. In summer an outdoor area adds a sun terrace, a recreation meadow, play equipment with water and sand areas, a basketball hoop, a table-tennis table and a beach-volleyball court.
The sauna area is enumerated without a total: a bio sauna usually at 55 °C with 30–35 per cent humidity and colour light; a new panorama sauna at 85–95 °C seating 40–45 people with a view over the koi pond; a salt sauna at 70 °C with about 20 per cent humidity; a herbal sauna at 75 °C; and a Roman steam bath at roughly 42 °C with close to 100 per cent humidity. A sauna garden by the pond and a lounge called Haus am See face the water. A sauna ticket also admits the holder to the whole bath.
The bath opens Tuesday to Sunday 10:00–20:00 and the sauna Tuesday to Sunday 11:00–21:00, closed Mondays except on public holidays and on Mondays during Lower Saxon school holidays; the first infusion is at 12:00. Counter prices are 8.00 € for an adult for up to three hours and 11.80 € for a day ticket, 5.40 / 7.50 € for children aged 3–17, free under 3; sauna 20.00 € for up to four hours and 25.00 € for a day. Note that an early-swimmer tariff is sold for Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 6:30–8:00, earlier than the published opening hours.
