Holthusenbad

Holthusenbad is a historic bathing complex in Hamburg-Eppendorf that opened in 1914 and has kept its original style. The operator lists its facilities as an indoor pool hall it calls the Therme, a wave pool said to be the only one in Hamburg, a year-round heated outdoor pool, and a water playground for children; no spring, water analysis or source temperature is named, so the Therme here is the operator's own name for the historic hall, not a mineral spring. The sauna area, styled as a journey back to the 1920s, offers nine sweat rooms from 40°C to 100°C: Glashuette (100°C), a media sauna (90°C), Kaffeestube (80°C), Eppendorfer Stube (70°C), Steinbad, Vitalbad and Aromabad (50°C each), a eucalyptus room (45°C) and a steam bath (40°C), plus cold-water stations; it holds the SaunaPremium seal, the German Sauna Association's top quality mark. Restaurant & Cafe Elvy serves guests on site. As of this writing the whole building, pool and sauna alike, is closed for a major renovation from 4 May 2026 to an expected reopening around January 2027, covering fire-alarm work, repainted changing cabins, renewed restrooms, and dome-ceiling repairs after contamination was found there.
