About
The Bartholomäustherme occupies a historic public-bath building at Bartholomäusstraße 95 in Hamburg-Barmbek, run by the municipal operator Bäderland Hamburg. German Wikipedia's table of Bäderland sites dates the house to 1909, when it opened as the Stadtbad Barmbek-Uhlenhorst together with a library and a registry office; it was rebuilt in 1969 and closed for refurbishment in 2021. Bäderland describes the result as a carefully modernised Jugendstil bath whose ground floor was redesigned in 2022 while the historic core was kept.
The bathing offer is small and warm rather than athletic. The operator names a single Thermenbecken at 34 °C with massage jets, and two aromatised steam baths, shown in the picture captions as a eucalyptus steam bath and a blossom steam bath, plus an experience shower. Nothing on the operator's pages claims a spring, a well or brine for this house: the water is plain heated tap water and the word Therme here denotes the warm-water wellness concept, not a thermal source. Bäderland's own brine facility, the Kaifu-Sole, is a different address. Every evening from 17:00 the hall switches to soft light and quiet music, and children are not admitted to either the therme or the sauna at any time.
The sauna floor is ticketed separately and enumerated without a total: a 100 °C Kaminsauna, a 90 °C Mediensauna, an 80 °C sauna, a 70 °C sauna, a Roman sweat bath and a steam bath, with cold-water treatments, a foot-warming basin, a quiet room, a sleeping room and a media room. Thursday is women's sauna day. Both the therme and the sauna open Monday to Sunday 10:00–22:00, with the till closing 60 minutes before the end; the counter price from 1 January 2026 is 14.30 € for an adult day ticket to the therme and 24.80 € for the sauna. Note that the bath page gives 10:00–21:00 under its Gastronomie heading for the Thermenbar, which is shorter than the bath's own hours. Access to the building is not step-free, although a pool lift, accessible showers, changing rooms and toilets and a shower wheelchair are provided.
