Amrum Badeland

Amrum Badeland stands at Am Schwimmbad 1 in Wittdün, at the southern tip of the North Sea island of Amrum, and is built around a wave pool rather than a spring. The house raises waves every half hour and gives the water in the main basin as 28 to 30 degrees; between wave cycles the same hall offers massage jets, bubbler seats, bubble loungers and neck showers. Children have a basin of their own at the same 28 to 30 degrees, with a serpentine slide running into it. Wave operation runs from 11:45 until an hour before closing, so the shape of a visit is set less by the opening time than by the wave schedule.

The sauna area is separate from the pool hall and is ticketed separately. It gathers a Finnish log sauna at 90 degrees, a bio sauna at 55, a steam bath at 40 and an infrared cabin, and opens onto a garden with a plunge basin, an outdoor shower, loungers and the hooded wicker beach chairs typical of the German coast. Thursdays and Sundays are family sauna days, when children under twelve may enter the sauna landscape as well.

Away from the water the building holds a solarium, a reading room stocked with the local island paper, the children's programme run by Amrum Touristik, and an exhibition mounted by the Schutzstation Wattenmeer, the Wadden Sea conservation body. Admission is sold by the hour rather than by the day: a first hour, a rate for each further hour, and a day ticket from the fourth hour onward, with a reduced tariff for holders of the island guest card. Since 15 July 2024 the operator has added a fixed energy surcharge of 1.50 euro per person per entry, which it attributes to its own energy costs having more than doubled.
