Erlebnisbad Leck

The Erlebnisbad Leck is the indoor leisure bath of the market town of Leck in North Frisia, Schleswig-Holstein, at Am Stadion 3, operated by the municipal utility Stadtwerke Nordfriesland GmbH whose head office is in Niebuell. The utility also brands the bath Die Lecker Oase and presents it as an Erlebnisbad and sauna offering swimming and aqua-fitness courses and year-round events alongside open bathing, supported by a Foerderverein, a supporters' association. Rules for children are set out prominently: children from ten may swim unaccompanied on production of the bronze swimming badge, younger children only in the company of a supervising adult over 18, and armbands are compulsory for toddlers, non-swimmers and uncertain swimmers.

The pool side is built around a 25-metre swimming pool with five lanes, heated, the operator notes, to a pleasant temperature of up to 27 degrees, which it presents as notable for the north of Germany, with coloured LED effects in the basin. The centrepiece attraction is a 90-metre giant slide fitted with a starry-sky ceiling. A steam bath sits directly in the pool hall, together with a large whirlpool, springboards at one and three metres, and a children's water world; the children's pool is held at 32 degrees. The building is heated for use throughout the year.

The sauna landscape is laid out in a garden in a modern Nordic style. It holds a large Finnish sauna house at 90 degrees with regular infusions, a large bio sauna at 70 degrees, a sauna garden with rest rooms, an illuminated plunge pool, a lawn for lounging and a hut for talking or playing. Sauna hours differ from bath hours and are given per day in the operator's timetable, with Wednesday morning to 16:00 reserved for women and the afternoon mixed. Courses run regularly: aqua-fitness and aqua-jogging classes and swimming courses for children from six ending in the Seepferdchen test.

The water is plain heated water; nothing on the operator's pages describes a thermal, mineral or brine source, and the temperatures quoted are heating set-points. Hours are restricted and worth checking before travelling: the bath is closed all day Monday, opens Tuesday from 15:00 to 21:00, Wednesday from 06:30 to 08:30 and again 10:00 to 21:00, Thursday and Friday from 06:30 to 21:00, and Saturday, Sunday and holidays 10:00 to 18:00, with the note that it stays shut on Schleswig-Holstein's statutory public holidays.
