Sonnentherme Lutzmannsburg is a family thermal bath in Lutzmannsburg in Burgenland, built around a sodium-calcium-hydrogen-carbonate mineral thermal water that the operator publishes an analysis for and describes as a recognised healing water. The operator gives the complex 3,000 m² of water surface across 24 indoor and outdoor pools and 18 slides, among them a 202-metre virtual-reality slide it calls the longest of its kind in the world. The bath is laid out as a Baby World, a Fun World and a Speed World, with a separate Sauna World for visitors aged 15 and over. According to the operator the spa opened on 17 September 1994 and was substantially enlarged in 1999 after a second borehole.
About
Sonnentherme Lutzmannsburg is a thermal bath in Lutzmannsburg in southern Burgenland, close to the Hungarian border, and the operator addresses itself first of all to families with small children. The site gives the complex 3,000 m² of water surface across 24 indoor and outdoor pools, together with 18 slides. It is organised into themed areas the operator calls Baby World, Fun World and Speed World, plus a Sauna World restricted to visitors aged 15 and over. According to the operator, successful drilling for thermal water took place in 1989 and 1990 on meadows east of the village, the spa opened on 17 September 1994, and after a second borehole in 1999 a significantly enlarged bath reopened that autumn; a further extension followed in 2003. The operator also notes that it received the environment ministry's environmental prize in 1996.
Thermal water
The operator publishes a water analysis carried out by the Institute of Geothermic Studies and Hydrogeology at Joanneum Research, which classifies the source as a sodium-calcium-hydrogen-carbonate mineral thermal water. The figures the site lists are a yield of 15 litres per second, a pH of 7.04, and, per litre, 708 mg hydrogen carbonate, 137 mg sodium, 95 mg calcium, 62 mg chloride and 26.7 mg magnesium. The site states that the water is a recognised healing water and, citing a study by Prof. Dr Walter Marktl, that the operator considers it applicable to mild to moderate chronic rheumatic and degenerative conditions of the locomotor system, the after-treatment of injuries to it, functional cardiovascular conditions, chronic fatigue and convalescence, and certain gynaecological disorders. The site describes the form of use as immersion and motion baths.
Pools and slides
Indoors, the operator lists around 1,000 m² of adventure pools together with a wave pool. The outdoor area is described with a pool for babies and toddlers 35 centimetres deep with two small slides, a splash pool 3.6 metres deep carrying three diving towers of 1, 2 and 3 metres and a climbing wall with an overhang, a 25-metre four-lane Rainbow Slide, and a 25-metre outdoor sports pool for which the site gives hours of 9:00 to 19:00. The headline slide is a 202-metre virtual-reality slide that the operator calls the longest virtual-reality water slide in the world, with three themed worlds; the site also lists named rides including the XXL Monster Ride, Speedy, Twister, Air Racer, Flitzer, Quaxi and Flipper, and publishes separate operating times for them.
For children
The baby area is built around a Baby Beach that the site gives as 450 m² of water surface with a fine sand beach, alongside shallow pools, water play equipment and bumper boats. The operator lists nursing nooks for breastfeeding, changing areas, and free loan prams in several versions including some with an infant carrier. Its programme includes baby swimming courses, mother-and-baby aqua yoga, baby massages and a baby wellness offer, and a Swim Academy for children aged 4 to 10. There is a children's sauna and steam bath, which the site gives as 55 to 60 °C and notes is closed over the summer months, plus a magic train, an adventure play park with a sandpit, a show arena and a virtual-reality snorkelling experience.
Sauna and wellness
Sauna World is open from age 15. The site lists two Finnish saunas, a herbal sauna, a bio sauna, an aroma steam bath, an infrared cabin, and a steam bath for which it gives 45 °C at 80 per cent humidity with a recommended stay of 15 to 20 minutes. For cooling there is a whirlpool and two plunge pools of 2.5 m² each at 10 to 20 °C. The surrounding facilities the operator names are a sauna garden, a rest room, a sun terrace, a sauna fireplace and a sauna bar serving drinks and light snacks.
Opening hours
The operator states that Baby World, Fun World and Speed World open daily at 9:00, closing at 21:00 from Monday to Thursday and on Sundays and at 22:00 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays before public holidays; overnight guests holding the house card are admitted from 8:30. Sauna World is given as 10:00 to 21:00 from Monday to Thursday and on Sundays and 10:00 to 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, and the children's sauna as 11:00 to 16:00 from Monday to Thursday and 11:00 to 17:00 from Friday to Sunday.
