Fischauer Thermalbad is a historic open-air thermal bath at Bad Fischau-Brunn in Lower Austria, at the foot of the sunny south slope of the Thermenlinie. The operator states that its spring water emerges year-round at a constant 19 degrees Celsius at 25,000 litres a minute, enough for the two historic pools to renew themselves up to four times a day without technical aids. Bathing takes place in the Herrenbecken, extended from 1899 under Archduke Rainer, and the Damenbecken added between 1925 and 1928.
About
Fischauer Thermalbad is an open-air thermal bath in Bad Fischau-Brunn, Lower Austria, which the operator presents as a bathing jewel in the nostalgic flair of the Austro-Hungarian era. The site places it at the foot of the sunny south slope of the Thermenlinie and sums the visit up as swimming in crystal-clear spring water at 19 degrees Celsius amid turn-of-the-century architecture. According to the operator a bath house for guests from the surrounding area first arose here in 1771. The site states that the market town of Bad Fischau-Brunn acquired the bath in 1992 from the Habsburg family and has run it itself since October 2012.
Thermal water
The operator states that the spring water rises year-round at a constant 19 degrees Celsius from the depths of the Fischauer Vorberge, at a flow of 25,000 litres per minute, and that this allows the water in the two historic swimming pools to renew itself up to four times a day without technical assistance. The site attributes the water quality to that turnover and says it was valued already by the Celts and the Romans.
Pools
The Herrenbecken, extended from 1899 on the instruction of Archduke Rainer, is described by the operator as the architectural centrepiece of the bath; reserved at first for noblemen under the moral conventions of the day, it is now open to all guests. According to the site a separate Damenbecken followed during the extension of the cabins between 1925 and 1928, with its own forebath of ankle-deep water so that ladies could grow used to the temperature. A rock grotto with an ivy-covered waterfall is listed as a further attraction, and for children the operator lists a separate, fenced area with a paddling pool, a children's slide and a sandpit.
Sauna and wellness
The operator states that the wellness area is closed during the summer season. For winter it lists a Finnish sauna, where the classic Aufguss is performed at an average of about 80 to 100 degrees, a bio sauna with colour-light therapy at 45 to 60 degrees, which the site describes as gentler on the circulation, and a Roman steam bath at up to 50 degrees with humidity usually around 100 per cent. For the season from 7 October 2026 to 28 March 2027 the site gives the sauna as open Wednesday to Sunday and on public holidays from 14:00 to 22:00, with Wednesdays reserved for women.
Opening hours
Hours are published separately for the two seasons. For the summer season, given as 27 April to 27 September 2026, the operator lists daily opening from 9:00 to 19:00 in May and September and from 9:00 to 19:30 from June to August, with no sauna operation in that period. The site warns that the Herrenbecken and Damenbecken may be unavailable for bathing until the afternoon depending on the spring discharge.
