About
Alpentherme Gastein is a thermal spa in Bad Hofgastein, in the Gastein valley of Austria. Opened in 2004, it is a large certified medicinal bathing and wellness complex built around the region's naturally warm thermal water and organised into six themed "worlds": the Thermal World, Family World, Sauna World, Ladies World, Sports World and Beauty World.
The water
The spa draws on thermal water that reaches the surface at 46 °C direct from the rock. The catalogue records this water as radon-bearing and the venue as a certified medicinal facility with recognised indications for respiratory conditions. The two thermal bathing lakes are kept free of chlorine, using a biological filtration system rather than chemical treatment.
Pools and bathing
The Thermal World combines indoor and outdoor thermal pools with the two chlorine-free bathing lakes and an activity programme that includes aqua jogging and body-style sessions. The Family World is aimed at children and families, with water slides, a current channel (lazy river), a children's pool, a baby pool and a playground. A distinctive feature is the "Alpe Adria Dome," a saltwater aquarium set within the bath.
Saunas and wellness
The Sauna World gathers several sauna types, including a Finnish sauna, a steam bath, a salt grotto, an infrared cabin and a solarium grotto, together with rest areas. The Ladies World is a separate area with its own Finnish sauna, steam bath and infrared cabin. The Beauty World offers cosmetics, massages and treatments, and the Sports World houses a fitness centre and gymnastics room.
Medical and therapy
A therapy centre is directly connected to the spa. Services stated by the operator include spa and health stays, physical therapy, sports medicine, gait analysis, performance testing, dietetics, psychological counselling, cryostimulation and a dialysis station.
Visiting
The spa is open every day of the year: Monday to Wednesday 9:00-21:00, Thursday to Saturday 9:00-22:00 and Sunday 9:00-21:00, with bathing ending 20 minutes before closing. A full-day adult ticket costs 50.50 EUR (child aged 6-15: 28.00 EUR); a four-hour ticket is 42.50 EUR for adults and 24.00 EUR for children, and an evening ticket valid from 18:00 is 30.00 EUR (child 19.00 EUR). Family day tickets start at 108.00 EUR for two parents and one child. All tickets include both thermal spa and sauna access, and there is a restaurant on site.
