About
Thermalbad Schinznach Bad is a thermal bathing complex in Schinznach-Bad, in the Swiss canton of Aargau, operated by Bad Schinznach AG. According to the operator, its story begins in 1651, when hot water of a strange smell suddenly broke out of the ground, and the site grew from that healing spring into a health resort known across Europe. The baths are divided into Aquarena Fun for families, sports swimmers and those seeking quiet, the Aquarena Sauna, and the Thermi Spa for guests aged 16 and over. A four-star spa hotel, a private rehabilitation clinic, a beauty spa, restaurants and a nine-hole pitch and putt course stand in the same park.
Thermal water
The operator describes its source as the strongest and most balanced sulphur spring in Switzerland, and the site publishes a figure of 1,400 square metres of thermal water in use across the baths, together with nine saunas and steam baths.
Pools
At Aquarena Fun the site lists a 65-metre grotto slide ending in an underwater world, a 25-metre swimming pool for lengths, a river pool to drift in, a thermal water pool that can be swum from the indoor hall out to the open air without leaving the water, and a warm whirlpool with underwater massage jets, all set against the park landscape. The operator states that Aquarena Fun has wheelchair-accessible changing rooms and showers and a lift to make getting into the water easier, with a further lift to the restaurant and the sauna on the first floor.
Sauna and wellness
The Aquarena Sauna holds three genuine Finnish log saunas with solid wood walls: a Finnish sauna at about 85 to 90 degrees, a bio sauna at about 55 to 65 degrees and a panorama sauna on the outdoor terrace at about 85 to 90 degrees. The site adds an aroma steam room at around 45 to 50 degrees with heated benches and scents such as mountain herbs or lavender, an experience steam room at about 42 to 45 degrees with a mist shower, a tropical rain shower and scented foam, and a graduation house at around 40 to 42 degrees where salty water passes through blackthorn branches. A rimless cold water pool and an ice fountain are listed on the terrace. In the Thermi Spa the operator lists a thermal water pool at 35 degrees with bubble loungers, a whirlpool at 37 degrees, a cold pool with underwater music, an earthen clay room at 45 to 50 degrees with rain showers, an organic sauna of Swiss stone pine and a classic Finnish sauna, and heated stone loungers and a steam cocoon in restored vaults. The site states that swimwear is required in the thermal pools and the clay room and that the remaining areas are textile-free.
