Terme di Boario

Terme di Boario is a spa and thermal cure centre at Darfo Boario Terme, in the lower Val Camonica in the province of Brescia, Lombardy. According to the operator the complex works four mineral waters that rise from different springs in the same basin and differ in their concentration of salts. The operator states that the establishment has 150 years of experience behind it, that it was completely restored in 2008, and that it is classified in Italy's “1° Categoria Nazionale super”. It pairs a medical drinking-cure department, the Centro Cure Violati, with a spa and wellness route and an adjoining thermal park.

Mineral water

The operator describes the four waters — Antica Fonte, Fausta, Igea and Boario — as cold sulphate–bicarbonate–calcium–magnesium waters at 13–15 °C that take up their mineral content from the Alps surrounding the Val Camonica. The operator states that all four act on the digestive and hepatic system, that Antica Fonte drunk warm acts on the liver, bile ducts and intestine, and that Boario is low in sodium. Two are bottled — Fonte Essenziale, the bottled form of Antica Fonte, and Acqua Boario — while the operator states that Fausta and Igea can be drunk only at the baths. Of Fonte Essenziale it states that the water is rich in sulphates and magnesium, with a calcium content amounting to 75% of the recommended daily dose in one litre, and that the Ministry of Health recognised it by decree in 1999. The operator adds that drinking-cure therapy with Antica Fonte began at Boario in 1700, and that in 2010 CERAM, the Centro Europeo di Ricerca Acque Minerali, gave the four waters a European mineral-water quality award.

Pools

The wellness route takes in two pools of thermal water and an outdoor pool with hydromassage looking out over the thermal park. In the cure centre the vascular circuit uses a thermal pool divided into two walking corridors, one with “warm” and one with “cold” Antica Fonte water, which the operator gives as 32 °C and 28 °C, with hydromassage jets set at different heights and fed with thermal water to which ozone has been added.

Sauna and wellness

Besides the pools the route includes a Finnish sauna, a Turkish bath, a Mediterranean bath, emotional showers, a Kneipp path, an ice waterfall, a relaxation area and a salt room, which the operator describes as a space where air saturated with iodine brings relief to the respiratory tract. Booking is required. A beauty centre offers face and body treatments, spa rituals and a thermal cosmetics line.

Cure centre

The medical department offers inhalation treatments, mud and bath therapy, the vascular circuit and irrigation therapies, with physiotherapy, massage therapy, an outpatient clinic and a paediatric department the operator calls Bimbi in Terme. It states that inhalation treatments carry thermal water and the gases it contains into the respiratory system, that they are indicated in chronic conditions of the upper airways and bronchi, and that Antica Fonte is among the waters most suited to this. Access requires a prescription and an examination with the spa's own doctor.

Opening hours

The spa works by fixed admission times rather than continuous entry: the operator lists entries at 12:30 and 16:00 on Monday, Thursday and Friday, an added 19:30 entry on Friday and entries from 10:00 at the weekend, and states that it is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. The thermal park is managed separately: the operator states that since 2023 it has been run by the Consorzio Turistico Thermae & Ski Valle Camonica and is open daily in summer.
