Véső úti Strandfürdő

Véső úti Strandfürdő is a municipal bathing complex (strandfürdő) in Szolnok, Hungary. The site combines outdoor recreational and competition swimming with a medicinal thermal pool (gyógyvizes termálmedence) drawn from a deep thermal well. The grounds cover about 1.3 hectares, including roughly 8,000 m² of green space and 1,300 m² of paved surface, and the facility was comprehensively renovated in 2020.

History

Construction of the 50-metre pool on Véső Street began in 1926, financed by the Szolnok branch of the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV), and was completed by 1929; the site describes it as the country's first public association sports pool. A permanent grandstand building with changing rooms, cabins and showers accommodated 1,000 spectators. In 1960 a warm-water well of around 55°C was drilled on the property. The complex operated until roughly 1985, then fell into disrepair and closed in 2003. It was rebuilt and reopened following a 2020 renovation carried out with government funding under the "Modern Cities" (Modern Városok) programme.

Pools

The site lists the following pools. A 50 × 18.8-metre competition swimming pool has a water surface of about 940 m² and a temperature of 24-27°C; it is open-air in summer and covered by an inflatable tent structure in winter. A "pipe-shaped" adventure pool (about 580 m² surface) is kept at 30-32°C and features two water slides, neck-massage jets and atmospheric lighting. A warm-water bench pool (about 195 m²) is held at 35-36°C for relaxation, and a children's pool (about 74 m²) at 32-34°C. The total water surface is given as roughly 1,884 m². Several pools are equipped with water-circulation (filtration) systems.

Thermal and medicinal water

The complex operates a medicinal thermal pool supplied by a thermal well approximately 1,005 metres deep, yielding around 1,500 litres per minute at 60°C. The thermal pool is available year-round. The site refers to the water as medicinal (gyógyvíz) and states that its mineral composition is documented in accompanying datasheets; the specific mineral content and medical indications are not published in the main page text.

Facilities

The complex has a changing-house building with separate sections for men, women, visitors with disabilities and staff, offering electronically accessed lockers, toilets, showers and wash basins. The grounds also provide 12 outdoor showers and 3 drinking fountains. Stated capacity is up to 788 visitors at once (3,556 per day) in summer and 347 at once (2,037 per day) in winter. Payment is accepted in cash, by bank card and by SZÉP card.

Opening hours

For the 2026 summer season (18 May - 30 September), the pools are open Monday to Friday 06:00-20:00, Saturday 08:00-20:00, and Sunday and public holidays 08:00-19:00; visitors must leave the pools half an hour before closing.

Admission

Full-day adult admission is 3,600 Ft for Szolnok residents and 4,000 Ft for non-residents, with a 2,500 Ft rate for seniors (65+) and students aged 4-18. A range of family packages, multi-use passes, athlete and school tickets, and separate slide-access and locker-rental fees are also listed.
