Nagyszénási parkfürdő

The Parkfurdo sits in the centre of Nagyszenas, a village on the southern Great Plain, and is run by the municipality itself: its pages, its address at Tancsics Mihaly utca 1 and its parkfurdo@nagyszenas.hu mailbox all belong to the town hall's own website. It is a modest, quiet, family-scale place rather than a resort, and it stays open through the year in outdoor swimming and thermal-water basins. Two open-air pools are given over to the thermal water, and a separate outdoor paddling pool for the youngest children runs only in the summer season, from May to September.

The water is the reason the bath exists. It rises from close to three thousand metres below the village at 96 degrees Celsius, and is described as an alkaline hydrogen-carbonate hot water rich in dissolved hydrocarbons that also carries fluoride and iodide ions. That composition matches the fluoride and iodine already recorded for the venue. The operator publishes no bathing temperatures for the individual pools and no water analysis table, so how far the 96-degree source is cooled before it reaches the basins is not stated anywhere on the site.

Alongside the water the bath keeps a purpose-built Finnish sauna held at 90 degrees with room for fifteen people, and hands out a sauna towel with every session; it runs on its own timetable, from 13:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 at weekends, closing with the bath at 19:00. A fitness park in the shade of lime trees offers five pieces of outdoor exercise apparatus covering most muscle groups, and there is a beach volleyball court on the grounds. Massage is available Tuesday to Sunday, mornings and afternoons, in a separate room: a classic refreshing massage in full or partial form, foot massage, and a range of oil and aromatherapy treatments from grape-seed and lavender to peppermint-rosemary and coconut. A pedicure service runs on Monday afternoons.

Tickets are graded three ways, with cheaper rates for residents of Nagyszenas and for people from the surrounding administrative district; ten-entry passes are sold for adults, students and pensioners, for swimmers and for the sauna, and stay valid for ninety days from the date of issue. Swimming courses for adults and children, a club rate for swimmers and an accompanying-person ticket are also listed, and a sunbed can be hired by the day. The bath is open from Monday to Sunday, 09:00 to 19:00.
