Békési Gyógyfürdő

Békési Gyógyfürdő (the Békés Medical Centre and Thermal Bath) is a certified medicinal spa in Békés, in southeastern Hungary. The complex combines a public swimming pool with a medicinal-bath and balneotherapy operation, and the venue began working as a municipal bath in 2017. It is run alongside the town's medical centre, so bathing sits next to physiotherapy and specialist care.

The water

The spa's source is described as a low-salt-concentration sodium-bicarbonate thermal water that also carries significant amounts of metasilicic acid and organic matter, together with iodine. The stated composition includes sodium at 565 mg/l, bicarbonate at 1,560 mg/l, metasilicic acid at 63 mg/l and iodide at 0.1 mg/l. Drawing on accumulated experience, the operator attributes anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, antispasmodic, muscle-relaxing and circulation-improving effects to the water.

Medical indications

The water is used to treat degenerative joint diseases, chronic joint inflammation, spinal deformities and disc herniation, as well as gout, psoriasis, soft-tissue rheumatism, osteoporosis, post-surgical joint rehabilitation and gynaecological complaints. The site also lists contraindications, including malignant tumours, cardiovascular disease, recent heart attack, overactive thyroid, kidney failure and acute infections.

Pools & saunas

The swimming section centres on a 25-metre, five-lane pool of 260 m² surface and 560 m³ volume, with a depth of 1.35 to 1.8 m and a water temperature of 26 to 28 °C. A separate teaching pool covers 78 m² (75 m³), is 0.75 to 1.2 m deep and is kept warmer at 30 to 32 °C. The complex also has indoor and outdoor thermal pools. Guests can use a sauna and a steam cabin, and among the water features are a neck shower, an underwater back massage station and a bubble bed.

Treatments & facilities

Beyond bathing, the centre provides medicinal-bath and balneotherapy services, physiotherapy and therapeutic and regenerative massage; a 25-minute partial-body massage is listed at 4,500 Ft and a 55-minute full-body massage at 7,000 Ft. Swimming instruction is offered, and water aerobics and baby swimming are available on request.

Visiting

The thermal bath is open Monday to Thursday 07:00–15:00, Friday 07:00–20:00 and Saturday to Sunday 10:00–20:00; the operator notes that night bathing is seasonal and does not run in summer. The swimming pool generally runs 08:00–20:00 on weekdays. Sample admission prices (valid from 2 March 2026) are 2,800 Ft for an adult single entry (2,450 Ft with a local card), 2,200 Ft for students and 1,100 Ft for children under seven.
