Vulkantherme

VulkanTherme is a thermal bath in Herbstein, in the Vogelsberg volcanic region of Hesse. Its water comes from a spring drawn from over 1,000 m depth in the Vogelsberg volcano, in use since 1976 and described by the operator as Hesse's highest-situated healing spring; the mineral-rich healing water reaches the pools at 32.6°C and is used both for bathing, said to benefit the musculoskeletal system, and as a drinking cure said to act on internal organs. The thermal movement pool sits behind a large glass facade opening onto the landscape, with outdoor terraces, a lawn for lying out, and a cafe-bistro in the foyer and on the terrace. The VulkanSauna section holds a low-temperature, high-humidity steam bath, a classic Finnish sauna, a biosauna with scent and aroma therapy, and an outdoor block sauna; cooling stations include an ice fountain, experience showers and plunge pools, with infusions poured several times a day. As of 1 July 2026 the pool is closed to the public on Mondays (a therapy day), open Tuesday to Saturday 10:00-21:00 with an evening moonlight tariff after 18:00, and Sunday and holidays 10:00-18:00; the sauna is closed Mondays and runs a women-only session on Tuesdays.
