Toskana Therme

The Toskana Therme Bad Sulza is a brine ("Sole") thermal bath in Bad Sulza, Thuringia, part of the Toskanaworld group. According to its official site, the therme combines "warmth, healing water, light and sound," centred on salt-containing thermal water and its trademark Liquid Sound experience. Bathing takes place across a landscape of pools spread over three floors, complemented by a sauna world, wellness services and an on-site restaurant.

Thermal water and pools

The bathing landscape ("Badelandschaft") comprises 11 pools and whirlpools. These include five cascade brine pools with massage jets and water spouts (one of them a children's brine pool), four whirlpools (three of them brine whirlpools), a heated outdoor brine pool with a current channel, an outdoor pool in the sauna area, and the Liquid Sound temple pool. The thermal water is kept at a pleasant temperature of about 35 °C and is described as salt-containing and slightly alkaline ("salzhaltig, leicht basisch"). Most pools are indoors, with outdoor sections including a sun terrace and lawns for lounging.

Liquid Sound

Liquid Sound is the therme's signature feature: a water-filled "concert hall" temple pool inspired by whale song, lit with coloured light, where music is played underwater daily for relaxation and meditation. Bathers float surrounded by musical vibrations, sound surfaces, frequencies and voices. A weekly "Sphärisches Donnerstag" (Spherical Thursday) runs 10:00-22:00 with a particularly buoyancy-friendly music mix, and the site also hosts live concerts, Liquid Sound Club evenings and a Festival of Water Art. Access to Liquid Sound is included in the regular thermal-bath admission.

Sauna world

The sauna world offers eight sauna and thermal spaces. Indoors these include a Finnish sauna (90 °C, 10% humidity), a Sanarium soft sauna (55 °C, 40% humidity), a steam bath ("Dampfbad," 43 °C, 100% humidity), a reading sauna ("Lektarium," 45 °C), and a Broncharium inhalation room (30 °C) with dry-brine nebulisation for the airways and bronchi. Outdoors are a milder Weinberg sauna (70 °C) with a real-wood fire, a Panorama infusion sauna (90 °C) with hourly infusions, an infrared sphere (30 °C room temperature), and a ceremonial Sweat Lodge with hot stones. A dry-brine cold-mist room ("Solekaltdampf-Raum") is also available.

Wellness and treatments

The wellness offer is organised into categories including pampering time, wellness programmes, wellness for the senses, cosmetics, deep relaxation, massages and Liquid Bodywork. Featured treatments include a Lava Shells massage using Philippine clam shells, foot care packages, and Dr. Nobis natural-cosmetics treatments. The wellness reception is open daily 09:00-18:00 and treatments run daily 10:00-18:00. The therme holds a Green Sign SPA certification and a Top 100 Saunaführer listing.

History and setting

Bad Sulza's brine has long been valued for its healing power: the site notes that in the early 17th century the researcher and physician Johann Agricola described the healing power of the Bad Sulza brine drawn from the depths. Today the associated Klinikzentrum Bad Sulza combines this natural resource with contemporary medical rehabilitation in orthopaedics and pulmonology, and a Hotel an der Therme sits alongside the bath.

Dining, hours and prices

On-site dining is provided by the "Il-Ristorante" restaurant, plus a Sauna Bar & Lounge. The therme is open Sunday-Friday 10:00-22:00 and Saturday 10:00-23:00, and on all German public holidays except 24 and 31 December. Admission (rates shown with a summer discount, 1 July-31 August 2026) is around EUR 22.00 for 2 hours, EUR 29.00 for 4 hours and EUR 38.00 for a day pass for adults, with children (ages 0-13; under 4 free) at roughly half price, plus family cards and 10-entry "COINS" tickets.
