About

Sole-Therme Otterndorf is a brine bath operated by the town of Otterndorf in Lower Saxony and presented on the municipal tourism site among the town's leisure facilities. The operator divides it into a bathing landscape of six swimming pools and a sauna landscape of six sweat rooms. For the bathing side the site gives 1,055 cubic metres of water and an average brine content of 0.75 per cent, with pool temperatures between 24 and 32 degrees. The sauna side is laid out around a garden with a plunge pool, with three rest areas, a seating corner with a fireplace and a sauna bistro.

Brine water

Brine content is published pool by pool rather than as a single value. According to the site the swimmer, course, non-swimmer and outdoor pools each carry 0.5 per cent brine and the fun pool and toddler area 1 per cent, which the operator averages to 0.75 per cent across the house. On the days set aside for Watsu aquatic bodywork the fun pool is stated to be heated to 35 degrees all day.

Pools

The swimmer pool is listed at 10 by 25 metres, or 250 square metres, with four 25-metre lanes, depths from 1.40 to 3.40 metres and a water temperature of 28 degrees, with one-metre and three-metre diving boards and a reserved fast lane at set times. The course pool measures 15 by 10 metres at 30 degrees and is used for aqua fitness, and the non-swimmer pool 12 by 10 metres at 28 degrees. The fun pool, 12.5 by 8 metres at 32 degrees, is listed with a current channel, wall massage jets, a cascade shower and underwater loungers with a bubble function, and outdoors the site gives a pool of 12 by 9 metres at 25 degrees beside a sunbathing lawn.

For children

The toddler area is described as a separate, screened-off section of 8.5 by 5.3 metres with water 2 to 40 centimetres deep at 32 degrees and an air temperature of 35 degrees, with a slide, water games and a bubble pool, and for parents a separate WC area with a child's toilet and a baby washbasin. The site notes that non-swimmers, infants included, must wear a buoyancy aid in the fun pool.

Sauna and wellness

The six sweat rooms are listed as the large outdoor sauna standing free in the sauna garden at 80 to 85 degrees, the Tennensauna as a dry hot-air bath at 85 to about 95 degrees, the Medemsauna as a Finnish sauna at about 85 degrees named for its view over the Medem, the Aromasauna at 65 degrees, the Dampfsauna at around 50 degrees with about 90 per cent humidity, and the Steinbad at about 40 to 50 degrees with heated benches. The operator states that Aufguss sessions begin at 12:00 and then run hourly in the large outdoor sauna or the Tennensauna, and advertises more than sixty a week. From October to April the site announces a long sauna night on the second Saturday of each month, open until 1:00 and limited to 160 guests.

Opening hours

The operator publishes separate timetables for the bathing and sauna landscapes, and within the bathing timetable separate rows for the Lower Saxony school holidays, regular weeks and individual public holidays, including early-morning swimming on Tuesday and Friday.
