Badelandschaft und Sauna im Historischen Albert Bad

The Badelandschaft und Sauna im historischen Albert Bad is one of two bathing complexes that Sächsische Staatsbäder GmbH runs in Bad Elster, the other being the Soletherme and its Saunawelt; the same state company also operates the radon spa at Bad Brambach, and its Bad Elster address is Badstraße 6. According to the German Wikipedia the Albert Bad building was erected around 1908 to a design by the Dresden architects Rudolf Schilling and Julius Graebner, and in the GDR the name Albertbad was no longer used officially after 1952, the building being called Neues Badehaus instead. The operator sells the Albert Bad as a bath in its own right and also as part of combined tickets with the Soletherme and the Saunawelt.

The bathing landscape is a light-filled hall with heated indoor and outdoor pools. The operator gives water temperatures of 25 °C to 35 °C and lists a current channel, massage jets, neck showers, floor and side bubblers, a steam bath at 45 °C, generous indoor and outdoor whirlpools and bubble benches in the open-air area. Extended lounging and rest areas have been added in a new Wintergarten within the historic bath architecture. A cafeteria inside the building serves snacks and hot and cold drinks daily from 10:00 to 18:00, with seating indoors and out.

The sauna in the Albert Bad has three cabins: a Finnish sauna at 80–90 °C, a Sanarium at 55–65 °C and a Kristallsauna at 65–75 °C, with experience showers and plunge pools indoors and outdoors for cooling down. A women-only sauna runs in the indoor area every Monday from 18:00 except on public holidays, and bathrobes and sauna towels can be hired for 5 € and 4 € a day. On the first Monday of each month, outside July and August, the bathing landscape holds a family afternoon from 15:00 to 18:00 with swimming games, floats and pool noodles; a family day on Mondays lets up to four further children in free with a family ticket.

The bath sits in a spa town that the Free State of Saxony titled a mineral and moor health resort in 2005, and the company states that it holds ten state-recognised healing springs in Bad Elster, among them the Marien- and Moritzquelle, the Salzquelle and the Elstersäuerling; natural moor and Glaubersalz are its other traditional remedies, and cures, prevention programmes, single applications and a training centre are sold alongside the bath. It is worth noting that the water in the Albert Bad itself is described as heated pool water, not as brine — the brine bathing is in the neighbouring Soletherme.

Opening hours for the Badelandschaft im Albert Bad are 09:00–21:00 from Sunday to Thursday and 09:00–22:00 on Friday and Saturday; the Sauna im Albert Bad opens an hour later, 10:00–21:00 Sunday to Thursday and 10:00–22:00 on Friday and Saturday. A day ticket for the bathing landscape including the textile steam bath costs 19 €, a three-hour ticket 16 € and a two-hour ticket 13 €; adding the sauna makes the day ticket 24 €. Since 1 January 2026 a weekend and public-holiday surcharge of 2.00 € applies to entry tariffs and single applications.
