About
The Jod-Sole Therme is a thermal brine bath at Bad Bevensen, in Lower Saxony, named after the iodine in its water. It holds over 1,200 m² of water, with 1,000 m² of sauna landscape and another 1,000 m² of spa and wellness beside it.
The water
The water is drawn from a well 700 metres deep and carries an official medicinal certification; iodine and iron are the dominant constituents. According to the venue it is used for respiratory complaints, disorders of the joints and the musculoskeletal system, and cardiovascular conditions, and it describes the treatments as particularly worthwhile for emotional strain and stress.
Pools and salt
The two main basins are the outdoor brine pool and a vital and health pool. A separate salt world holds a graduation tower, where brine trickles over blackthorn brushwood and the air around it turns salty.
Saunas
Six cabins: two sanariums at 70 °C, a herbal sauna at 75 °C, and three blockhouse saunas at 80, 90 and 100 °C.
The cure department
The bath runs an open spa cure — an outpatient preventive course covered by statutory health insurance, and a mandatory benefit since July 2021. The local spa physician prescribes the applications, which include massage and movement baths in the therme. The insurer covers 90% of the treatment cost, leaving a 10% copayment unless the patient is exempt, and typically adds a daily allowance of about twelve to thirteen euros towards accommodation.
Visiting
The bath opens 09:00 to 22:00 from Monday to Saturday and 09:00 to 20:00 on Sundays and public holidays; the sauna landscape starts half an hour later. Last entry and the cash desk close an hour before the bath. For an adult, 120 minutes cost 13.50 EUR, 180 minutes 17.00 EUR and a full day 23.00 EUR; with the sauna the same tickets are 18.00, 21.50 and 27.50 EUR. Children under 16 pay 10.00 to 18.50 EUR depending on the duration, and family cards run from 18.00 to 94.00 EUR. Children are admitted only from the age of four and only with an adult. The bath is at Dahlenburger Straße 3.
