aquaferrum
aquaferrum is the municipal all-weather bath of Friesoythe in Lower Saxony, with a 25-metre indoor pool on a movable floor, a children's adventure world with three small slides, and a heated outdoor leisure basin open from April to October.
About
aquaferrum is run by Wirtschaftsbetriebe Stadt Friesoythe GmbH, the town's own utility company, and describes itself in its footer as the „Allwetterbad Friesoythe“ and in its page titles as a „Kinder- & Erlebnisbad“. The water is ordinary heated pool water: the operator makes no thermal, mineral or brine claim anywhere on the pages read, and there is no sauna — the section headed Wellness offers only treatments by an outside practitioner, Anita Spickhofen, whose programme runs „von klassischen Massagen über Lymphdrainagen bis zu Wärme- und Kältetherapie“, with bath admission included when a treatment is booked during opening hours.
The indoor hall is built around a single 25-metre basin with an integrated movable floor, published as „25 m Innenbecken mit einer Beckentiefe von 1,20 m bis 2,565 m dank integriertem Hubboden“. Because the floor is raised and lowered through the week, the operator publishes a separate depth timetable rather than one fixed depth: roughly 1.80 m for lane swimming in the evenings, about 0.90–1.20 m during course and school hours, and about 1.20–1.35 m at other times, with the note that these depths apply only during term time. The children's adventure world (Kindererlebniswelt) opened in May 2022 and consists of „drei kleinen Rutschen“ with water play features; on weekends and in the holidays a Spielnachmittag is held from 12:00 to 18:00, when the movable floor is set to about 1.20 m, toys are put into the pool and the whole hall is given over to children. A modern lighting concept is used in the hall, particularly in the evening hours.
Outdoors there is one leisure basin, open from April to October depending on the weather and held at about 30 °C, with massage jets and bubble benches; the operator states that 138,000 litres of water are used in the outdoor basin alone. The outdoor area covers some 7,000 m² and holds a large children's playground, a lawn, a beach-volleyball court, badminton and an XXL sandpit. The basin is closed in storms or thunderstorms. The site's current water temperatures are given as 29 °C in the swimmer's pool, 31.5 °C in the paddling pool and adventure world, and 30 °C in the outdoor basin.
The bath states it is open „350 Tage im Jahr“. Hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 06:00–08:00 and 10:00–22:00; Tuesday 06:00–08:00 and 14:00–22:00; Saturday 12:00–20:00 and Sunday and public holidays 10:00–20:00, with the Spielnachmittag from 12:00 to 18:00 at weekends and daily from 13:00 to 18:00 in the holidays. Last admission is one hour before closing, water time ends 15 minutes before closing, and the children's adventure world shuts one hour early. Children under seven need an adult companion. Admission prices are not listed on the pages read — the site links to a separate price list — but a news item of 23 September 2025 announced that tariffs rose from 1 November 2025 because of energy and staff costs. A further news item records a temporary staffing closure from 22 July to 3 August 2026; the bath is otherwise operating.
