The smallest of the Thermes Adour cure houses, set in the middle of old Dax and reached by lift from the three-star Grand Hôtel, whose guests are the only people it treats.

About

Thermes du Grand Hôtel is one of six thermal establishments operated by Thermes Adour in Dax and neighbouring Saint-Paul-lès-Dax. It sits in the centre of the spa town on Rue de la Source, and unlike its sister houses it is not open to curistes at large: treatment is reserved for guests of the three-star Grand Hôtel next door, which reaches the baths directly by lift. The hotel counts 112 rooms, four of them adapted for reduced mobility, one room-lounge and fifteen apartments, so the bathing side is correspondingly small. The whole building is air-conditioned, and the operator says the peloid cabins have been rebuilt and fitted with light therapy.

The programme is the standard French conventionné cure: eighteen days of prescribed treatment, in rheumatology or phlebology orientation or both at once, with shorter six-day preventive weeks and evening schedules for people who work. The mud is the Dax peloid, and it is not made here. A single municipal mud authority produces it from Adour river silt matured with local cyanobacteria and supplies every thermal establishment in Dax and Saint-Paul-lès-Dax, which is why the treatment is the same substance in all six houses; each curiste is issued a personal quota of it for the three weeks.

On water the group is explicit that it owns its springs, and that only one of its houses, Thermes des Arènes, draws thermal water from the Dax municipal utility instead. Thermes du Grand Hôtel is therefore on the group's own sources, not on town water. Beyond that the establishment publishes almost nothing quantitative about itself: no pool count, no bathing temperature, no borehole depth and no clock hours. The 2026 season runs from 2 March to 28 November, with treatments given every day except Sunday, and on public holidays unless the holiday falls on a Sunday.
