Bains Saint-Pierre in Dax (Landes) is the town's oldest thermal establishment, founded in 1854, offering conventional medical thermal cures in rheumatology, phlebology and fibromyalgia using naturally hyperthermal water and the local Dax péloïde mud.

About

Les Bains Saint-Pierre is a medical thermal cure establishment ("cure thermale") in Dax, in the Landes department (40) of south-west France. Founded in 1854, the site presents itself as the oldest thermal establishment in Dax, set in the historic town centre at the foot of the Gallo-Roman ramparts. It is one of three establishments operated by Les Bains de Dax (formerly Groupe Thermal Dax Adour), alongside Thermes Foch and Thermes Daxadour. Cures are conventional treatments carried out under the supervision of a thermal physician and reimbursed at 65% by the French health system.

Medical indications

The establishment specialises in three therapeutic orientations: rheumatology (rhumatologie), phlebology (phlébologie) and fibromyalgia. Double-orientation programmes and shorter mini-cures are also offered across the group.

Thermal water

Dax's thermal water is described as naturally hot and hyperthermal ("naturellement chaude et hyperthermale"). It is used at between 33°C and 34°C for rheumatology care and between 27°C and 28°C for phlebology treatments. Its stated mineral composition includes calcium sulfate (390 mg/l), sodium chloride (234 mg/l) and magnesium sulfate (126 mg/l), which the site associates with diuretic and detoxifying properties.

Péloïde (thermal mud)

A central element of the cures is the Dax péloïde, described as a 100% natural blend of thermal water, silt from the Adour river and a specific blue microalgae that develops uniquely in Dax. The site states the mud has recognised benefits for muscles and joints, is used fresh for a single curiste, and is applied locally to painful areas as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory. Within conventional cures the programme includes 18 mud applications of 15 minutes each.

Facilities

The care circuit is described as bathed in natural light through large bay windows, laid out on a single ground-floor level for ease of access, with private parking. The site emphasises a warm, family-oriented setting and qualified care staff working in coordination with each patient's thermal physician.

Season

The 2026 thermal season runs from 2 March to 28 November 2026.
