Aquensis is a thermal spa at Bagnères-de-Bigorre in the Hautes-Pyrénées, fed by a borehole that yields water at 50 °C, with a 300 m² animated main pool, a relaxation pool, a hammam and two Finnish saunas.
About
Aquensis stands on the Rue du Pont d'Arras in Bagnères-de-Bigorre, in the Hautes-Pyrénées; the operator's footer address block and its legal notice agree on the town, the notice giving the company SEMETHERM DEVELOPPEMENT at "Etablissement Thermal 65200 BAGNERES DE BIGORRE". The bath adjoins the town's Grands Thermes and the casino.
The thermal designation is backed by the operator's own statement about the supply, not merely by the name. Aquensis writes that its waters are rich in trace elements and particularly in calcium, magnesium and sulfates, and that the water is "Extraite par forage à une température de 50°C" — drawn by borehole at 50 °C — then cooled by a system that avoids any mixing, so that it reaches the pools in its natural state. No borehole depth, no total mineralisation in mg/L and no published analysis figure appear on the site; the named constituents are given qualitatively. The pool water temperature is not published either.
The Espace Détente is built in wood, Pyrenean marble and daylight. Its Grand Bassin covers 300 m², is fed with thermal water and is animated with misting jets, a water curtain, swan-neck spouts and alcoves with bubble beds, jets and counter-currents, with a 20 m central swimming corridor running alongside it. Next to it the Piscine Détente carries hydromassage stations and Aqua musique, relaxing music diffused under the water. The Espace Hammam is laid out as a series of vaulted rooms lined with Pyrenean marble benches, with a tea room, a treatment cabin and mint tea served. The Terrasse Détente is a wooden decking terrace with whirlpool baths and loungers looking out over the spa town, the Bédat forest and the Pyrenean summits; two traditional Finnish saunas flank a large central shower there. Beyond the détente area the building holds a treatments section, an aquatic relaxation section — currently not open for individual bookings — and a gym and fitness section.
Aquensis opens seven days a week, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10:30 to 20:00 and Tuesday and Sunday from 12:30 to 20:00, with bathers leaving the pools fifteen minutes before closing and reception closing at 19:00 each evening; an annual technical shutdown ran from 8 to 28 June 2026. Children are admitted to the Espace Détente from the age of five and must be accompanied by an adult between five and fifteen. Admission runs on Aqua Pass formulas: an adult pass from 20 €, a child pass from 10 €, a family pass for two adults and one child from 47 €, a two-hour student or senior pass at 17 € and a two-hour single-parent family pass at 28 €. The operator does not publish an opening year for the building.
