Where these facts come from

  • Operator's site checked Oct 6, 2026 and answering

Therme St. Kathrein is the municipally owned thermal bath of Bad Kleinkirchheim, in the Carinthian Nockberge at over 1,000 metres above sea level. The operator calls the water an Akratotherme, a naturally warm and lightly mineralised thermal water, and states that every pool is filled entirely with it. The site lists an indoor wellness pool of 330 square metres, a family adventure pool of 200 square metres at about 32 to 34 degrees, two thermal-fed outdoor pools at about 18 to 20 degrees and five sauna rooms.

About

Therme St. Kathrein is a thermal bath in Bad Kleinkirchheim, a UNESCO biosphere reserve community in the Nockberge mountains of Carinthia, at over 1,000 metres above sea level. According to the operator the thermal water rises directly behind the building, and the house presents itself as a family and health spa open in summer and winter alike. The site claims the largest water landscape among Carinthia's thermal baths and describes the whole thermal area as barrier-free.

Thermal water

The operator describes the water of Bad Kleinkirchheim as an Akratotherme, in its own words a naturally warm, lightly mineralised thermal water characterised by calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate and sulphate, and states that all of the bath's pools are filled to 100 per cent with it. The operator states that the warmth supports the relaxation of muscles and joints and that the water is also used therapeutically, among other things for chronic rheumatic conditions and degenerative arthrosis.

Pools

The site lists an indoor wellness pool of 330 square metres, which it also describes as a 25-metre pool, and a family adventure pool of 200 square metres with eddies, currents, a water mushroom and a wild-water channel, both at about 32 to 34 degrees. A sluice leads from the family pool into a heated outdoor connecting pool with bubble jets at the same temperature. Outdoors the operator lists two further pools fed with thermal water at about 18 to 20 degrees, one of them a 25-metre pool for lane swimming, and a toddlers' pool of 16 square metres completes the bathing landscape.

Sauna and wellness

The sauna world is listed as the Event Sauna Arena Nockberge, a steam sauna at about 45 degrees, a Finnish sauna indoors and a Finnish outdoor sauna at about 90 degrees each, and a bio herbal sauna at 60 degrees, with guided Aufguss sessions according to the daily programme. The site reserves the area for guests aged 16 and over, and in the bathing landscape the operator lists three rest rooms panelled in the local arolla pine.

Opening hours

The operator states that the bath is open daily from 9:00 to 21:00, with bathing and sauna ending at 20:45, and that the sauna landscape keeps the same hours. The 86-metre Nockberge water slide is described as usable year-round thanks to a heated tower and landing zone.
