Municipal open-air sulphur bath at Baden bei Wien covering 42,000 m², with Austria's largest sand beach; it runs seasonally from May to late September.

About

The Thermalstrandbad Baden is at Helenenstraße 19-21 in Baden bei Wien, Lower Austria, and is run by the municipality of Baden through its sport and leisure department. The operator describes it as a Jugendstil bath with a listed Art-deco facade set in a site of 42,000 m² next to the Weilburgpark, and gives it the largest sand beach in Austria: a pale-yellow strand of 3,700 m² laid directly beside the swimming pools, which the town states is unique in the country in this form. The bath marks its hundredth birthday in 2026, and the 2026 season is billed as an anniversary season.

The pools combine sport and sulphur bathing. The operator lists two 50-metre swimming pools, two sulphur pools, massage jets at various heights, a current channel, floor geysers, massage loungers on a palm island, a large water slide, a broad water slide, a diving tower and a children's pool with a water mushroom and its own slide. Guideline water temperatures are published by pool for the bathing season: the sports pool at 19-23 °C, the multi-purpose pool at 22-26 °C, the mineral pool at 25-29 °C, the slide landing pool at 22-25 °C, the sulphur pool known as the "Wandl" at 34-36 °C, and the children's pool at 26-28 °C. The town notes that these are guide figures and that the day's actual readings are posted on site.

The scale of the changing provision reflects the bath's origins as a mass facility: 304 cabanas, 870 cabins and 1,354 lockers are available, which the operator says allows large crowds to be absorbed while the extent of the grounds keeps the site from feeling full. There are two restaurants, a café in the former Milchtrinkhalle, an ice-cream stand, a nursing and changing room, and deckchair and parasol hire. The surrounding Weilburgpark and the lawns offer beach volleyball, streetball, beach soccer, badminton, an adventure playground and a large sand play area.

The bath is seasonal. The 2026 bathing season runs from Friday 1 May to Sunday 27 September. Bathing begins at 08:30 from Monday to Friday, and at 08:00 at weekends and on public holidays until 6 September, thereafter at 08:30. Closing times step down through the season: bathing ends at 19:30 until 16 August, 19:00 until 6 September, 18:30 until 20 September and 18:00 for the final week, with the premises closing thirty minutes later in each case. The cash desk shuts an hour before the end of bathing, after which late-visitor tickets are sold by the lifeguard at the entrance.
