Thermal-Römerbad

The Thermal Römerbad is a thermal spa in Bad Kleinkirchheim in the Austrian state of Carinthia. According to its own pages, the facility spans over 12,000 m² across three architecturally distinct levels and combines a thermal bathing area with an extensive sauna landscape, a massage and beauty centre and on-site dining. It is fed by a naturally warmed mineral spring.

Thermal water

The spring water emerges at a source temperature of 36 °C and is described by the spa as naturally warmed spring water with healing properties. In the pools it is maintained between 31 and 34 °C for both the indoor and outdoor bathing areas. A published water analysis, carried out by Vienna's state institute for experimental pharmacological and balneological analysis, lists the main dissolved minerals per kilogram of source water as bicarbonate (137.3 mg), sulfate (52.95 mg), calcium (40.68 mg), magnesium (15.96 mg), sodium (5.1 mg), chloride (4.10 mg) and potassium (1.65 mg).

Health indications

The spa markets the thermal water for allergic illnesses, anaemia, migraines, post-surgical exhaustion, sciatica, rheumatism, nerve inflammation, blood-pressure regulation issues and cardiovascular diseases.

Pools and water areas

The bathing area totals 872 m² of water surface across five thermal-water pools. The indoor pool features massage nozzles, water fountains, countercurrent nozzles, a wildwater stream, a waterfall and a water slide. Outdoor pools include a panorama pool with underwater relaxation beds and further pools with floor and neck jets. Additional features are a whirlpool with jets, a cold/warm Kneipp treading pool, and a children's and baby pool.

Sauna landscape

The spa offers 13 individually designed saunas and steam baths arranged across three themed levels (Romanum, Noricum and Maximum), ranging from warm-air rooms and steam baths to Finnish saunas, bio saunas, a larch-wood sauna, a gemstone sauna, a salt-infused steam bath and an infrared sauna. Daily sauna infusions, including special infusions led by sauna masters, are part of the programme.

Spa, wellness and dining

A massage and beauty centre provides massage and beauty treatments, and the spa lists day-spa packages under the name Carpe Diem (Basic and Premium). On-site dining is provided by the Gellius restaurant, which offers regional and seasonal dishes including vegan and vegetarian options and a salad bar, plus a sauna bar.

Opening hours and admission

In summer (22 May – 18 September 2026) the spa is open daily from 10:00 to 19:00, and in autumn/winter (19 September 2026 – 29 March 2027) daily from 10:00 to 21:00, with the bath and sauna closing 15 minutes before closing time. Stated summer admission includes a three-hour thermal-bath ticket at €27.50 for adults, a three-hour thermal-bath-plus-sauna ticket at €38.50, and a full-day thermal-bath-plus-sauna ticket at €46.00; children under six enter free.
