Mineralbad & Spa Samedan is a mineral bath in the historic village centre of Samedan in the Engadine, built onto the listed village church and described by the operator as the first vertical mineral bath in Switzerland, with its bathing rooms stacked over five storeys. According to the operator the water comes from the bath's own spring, which rises at a depth of 35 metres and is described as rich in sulphur and minerals. The site sets out a fixed circuit of about two hours, from an eight-metre-high alpine bath at 35 C through steam baths at 40 C and 45 C to an open-air roof bath beside the church tower.
About
Mineralbad & Spa Samedan is a mineral bath in the historic centre of Samedan, in the Engadine. According to the operator it stands on the main square, built onto the listed village church, and is the first vertical mineral bath in Switzerland: the bathing and steam rooms are stacked over five storeys rather than spread across one floor. The site credits the architecture to Miller & Maranta. The operator sets aside around two hours for the full circuit, which ends in a roof bath looking out over the Engadine mountains.
Thermal water
The operator states that bathing is in mineral water from the bath's own spring, which rises at a depth of 35 metres. The site describes the water as rich in sulphur and minerals and refers to the source as a healing spring (Heilquelle).
Pools
The circuit begins in the Alpenbad, a flooded room up to eight metres high with water at 35 C, with niches, a stone path for a foot massage, a mist grotto and a room of silence. One storey higher is the herbal steam bath at 40 C, followed by a body scrub with exfoliating gloves; a second steam bath reaches 45 C, after which the site recommends rest on large warmed stones. A bubble bath at 35 C and a hot bath at 40 C come next, and the circuit closes in the open-air roof bath, which the operator calls the Gletscherbad, with the church tower alongside and the mountains ahead.
Sauna and wellness
According to the site the ritual ends in one of two rest rooms above the roofs of Samedan, the Arvenstube and the Lärchenkammer. The operator also offers massages, treatments and Day Spa packages, and provides tea and fresh spring water free for the duration of a visit.
For children
The operator states that children under 16 may use the bath only in the company of an adult and only until 5 p.m.,. Swim nappies are compulsory for small children in the water, and courses including baby swimming are listed.
Opening hours
The site publishes seasonal hours: until 30 November, Monday 1 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and Tuesday to Sunday noon to 8.30 p.m.; from 1 December until Easter Monday, Monday 1 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and Tuesday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Bathing ends 30 minutes before closing, and the operator states that no reservation is needed for admission.
