Bormio Terme

Bormio Terme stands on Via Stelvio in Bormio, in the Alta Valtellina in Lombardy. The operator dates the spa to 1920.

The water comes from the Cinglaccia spring, which the site says gushes out at between 37 and 40 °C, and is classified as a mineral sulphate–bicarbonate alkaline-earth water. Its analysis gives 733 mg/l sulphate, 240 mg/l calcium and a fixed residue at 180 °C of 1,202 mg/l.

The indoor sports pool measures about 25 × 16 m at roughly 28 °C; the Four Seasons pool covers some 240 m² at 33 °C, part of it outdoors; the Stelvio pool, about 20 × 8 m at around 35 °C, is open along its sides to the air; and an outdoor pool of more than 120 m² runs at 28–29 °C with two thermal waterfalls, open through the winter. Three shallow pools at 32–33 °C are for children, and a 60-metre slide of running thermal water runs all year. A Finnish sauna, a bio-sauna, a Turkish bath and an ice bath make up the Family Wellness path; Wellness +16 is closed to under-16s.

The cure department is affiliated to the Italian health service for mud packs, thermal baths and inhalations; the operator says the establishment is classified at the ministry’s highest level. It describes the water as used against rheumatic illness and skin conditions, as suited to the joints and useful in peripheral vascular complaints; the claims are the operator’s, and every cure must be booked.

Entry is not bookable: a day ticket or a two-and-a-half-hour ticket is bought on arrival; on the busiest holiday dates only the timed ticket is sold. The operator gives the wellness area as open daily 10am–8pm but closed on Tuesdays.
