Bains de Saillon

Water parkSwitzerland

A thermal bath in the Valais village of Saillon with indoor and outdoor pools at 32 to 34 degrees and a 120-metre thermal river.

About

The Bains de Saillon lie in the Rhône valley in the Swiss canton of Valais, below the vineyards and the medieval tower of Saillon. The bath is built around thermal water, and the operator keeps its pools entre 32 et 34°C — between thirty-two and thirty-four degrees — which is warm enough to sit in for a long time rather than to swim lengths.

There are five bodies of water. An indoor thermal pool and an outdoor thermal pool are the main ones, both between 1.20 and 1.60 metres deep so that an adult can stand anywhere in them. A round pool is reserved for visitors of sixteen and over, at 1.40 metres. A semi-olympic swimming pool is kept cooler, at twenty-eight degrees, and is the deepest at 2.10 metres. A children's area outdoors runs from May to September only.

Running through the complex is a thermal river a hundred and twenty metres long, standing 1.20 metres deep, fitted with massage benches, a water cave with jets, and accelerators that push the current along its course.

The wellness area, called the Mayens du Bien-Être, is separate from the pools and holds 1 sauna, 1 bio-sauna, 1 hammam, along with a room with a fireplace and a panoramic space for lying down. The baths open every day from eight in the morning until nine at night; the thermal river starts an hour later and the wellness area two hours later.
