Termas de Vidago

Chaves, Vila Real, Portugal

Belle Epoque thermal spa at the 5-star Vidago Palace, using naturally mineralised waters from deep granite wells for baths and hydrotherapy.

About

The Termas de Vidago, at the heart of the Belle Epoque Vidago Palace, is one of Portugal's historic thermal destinations. The palace was commissioned by King Carlos I and opened in 1910 as a therapeutic luxury resort, set within the wooded Vidago Thermal Park in Tras-os-Montes.

Mineral water & source

The spa draws on Vidago's celebrated natural mineral waters, collected directly from deep wells in the granite rock. The water is rich in minerals with alkalizing and diuretic properties, and is traditionally associated with digestive, musculoskeletal and metabolic benefits.

The modern Thermal Spa, designed by architect Alvaro Siza Vieira, offers water-based treatments and relaxation facilities including:

  • An outdoor vitality pool
  • Immersion baths (36-42°C)
  • Hydromassage baths with alternating jet circuits
  • An invigorating ice fountain and refreshing showers
  • Jet showers, Vichy shower and hydroponic mineral-water cures

Wellness

Wellness offerings include Clarins and myBlend by Clarins facial and body treatments (LED masks, HydraFacial), treatment rooms, a couple's room, a relaxation room, a gym and a solarium.

Palace hotel & setting

The five-star Vidago Palace combines its restored 1910 palace with fine dining, a golf course designed by Philip Mackenzie Ross, and grounds surrounded by mountains and forest.
