Terme di Vetriolo

Terme di Levico e Vetriolo is a medicinal thermal centre in the Valsugana valley of eastern Trentino, with its main facility in the town of Levico Terme and its water source in the mountains above at Vetriolo Terme. The site states it has been synonymous with health and wellness for over 160 years, built around the "Acqua Forte di Levico," a thermal water it describes as unique in Italy and rare in Europe. Treatment programmes are prescribed by physicians during an admission visit and are available both privately and through the Italian national health service (SSN).

Thermal water

The centre's defining resource is the "Acqua Forte" ("strong water"), a strongly acidic, highly mineralised arsenical-ferruginous water rich in iron and other metals. The official site attributes anti-inflammatory, eutrophic and immunomodulating properties to it. The water is gathered from sources in the mountains above Levico near Vetriolo, the setting of one of the highest thermal stations in Europe.

Health indications

According to the facility, the water and its treatments address respiratory, dermatological (skin) and osteoarticular (bone and joint) conditions, and are also used to support general wellbeing, sleep quality and stress reduction.

Treatments

The programme includes balneotherapy (immersion in thermal water for joint and skin conditions), fangotherapy (localised anti-inflammatory mud applications followed by a thermal-water bath), and a range of respiratory therapies: aerosol (basal, sonic and ionic), micronised nasal shower and pulmonary ventilation. A dedicated area provides paediatric inhalation treatments for children from age two in child-appropriate settings.

Wellness and pool

Alongside medical care, the centre offers thermal wellness paths (including thermal-experience, cryotherapy, thermal-bed and thermal-beauty sessions). Its relaxation pool is heated to about 34 degrees Celsius and fitted with hydromassage jets.

On-site services include medical clinics (ambulatori), physiotherapy and resident specialists, a restaurant, event halls, and the adjoining Hotel Terme (a medical hotel). The centre also produces its own line of thermal cosmetics. Valsugana, where the baths are located, is promoted as certified for sustainable tourism by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
