A municipal bath complex in the centre of Hódmezővásárhely that combines a certified medicinal-water open-air bath of eight pools, an indoor children's leisure section, a water-slide park and a summer water-play park with the 50 m competition hall of the Gyarmati Dezső sports pool.
About
The site in the Népkert park at Hódmezővásárhely is a single complex under one operator, Hód-Fürdő Kft., in which a thermal bath and a competition swimming hall share an address. The thermal side is not incidental: the operator states that the bath's water rises from 2200 m, at 76 °C, is low in hardness and rich in alkaline hydrogen carbonates, and that decision 3/Gyf-1994 of the Ministry of Welfare declared it medicinal water (gyógyvíz). Mineral content is given as 2190.525 mg per litre. The operator's own history page records a different figure for the drilling that first made the bath thermal — a 1050 m deep bore sunk in 1953 — so the 2200 m depth on the medicinal-water page and the 1050 m depth on the history page are not reconciled anywhere on the site; they may refer to two different wells.
The open-air bath covers 2905 m² of water surface in a landscaped park and holds eight pools, split between a front and a rear section. The front section has a 50 × 20 m eight-lane competition pool at a constant 2.10 m depth and 26–28 °C, a 23 × 20 m middle pool at 120 cm and 30–32 °C used for therapeutic swimming, underwater gymnastics and aquafitness, a 23 × 20 m medicinal-water sitting pool at 60–90 cm and 36–38 °C, and a 7.5 × 12 m warm children's pool at 40 cm and 36 °C. The rear, seasonal section adds a pensioners' therapeutic pool of 10 × 12.9 m at 90 cm and 35–38 °C, a 23 × 14.6 m teaching pool at 100 cm and 32–34 °C, a 21.6 m diameter mushroom-shaped paddling pool at 15–35 cm and 35–38 °C, and a children's adventure pool of 10 × 16 m handed over in 2010 with two slides, a water hedgehog and a tipping bucket. A covered leisure section opened at the end of 2014 with two further pools: a 25 × 13 m children's adventure pool at 10–60 cm and 32–34 °C, and a 12 × 9 m medicinal-water pensioners' pool at 90 cm and 35–38 °C, where under-14s are admitted only on medical advice. A slide park was built into the rear teaching pool in 2022, with a 17 m Kamikaze, a 9 m family slide and a 55 m Anaconda.
Treatment is run with the staff of the Erzsébet Hospital: on specialist referral the bath provides underwater gymnastics, tangentor treatments and massage, and the operator cites rheumatologists describing the water as effective for inflammatory and degenerative musculoskeletal disease, including degenerative change in the spine and in the knee and hip joints. The complex also has a gym, a sauna and recreation department, and the adjoining Hód-Termál campsite, renewed between 2021 and 2023. The present bath has operated in the town centre since 14 July 1929, when a single 100 m concrete pool — then unique in Hungary — was built; the indoor city sports pool was handed over on 20 August 2003, and a covered 33 m warm-up pool was added for the 2016 European Junior Swimming Championships. The bath and sports pool are open daily, the sports pool from 06:00 on weekdays and 08:00 at weekends, both until 20:00; the covered children's leisure and thermal pool runs Friday to Sunday. The rear seasonal pools, the water slides and the Waterplay water-play park are summer-only and were listed as closed for the season from 6 September 2026, while sauna sessions continue through the autumn.
