Csongrádi Gyógyfürdő és Uszoda

Csongrádi Gyógyfürdő és Uszoda (Csongrád Thermal Bath and Swimming Pool) is a certified medicinal bath and swimming complex in the centre of Csongrád, Hungary, at Dob utca 3-5. It combines a competition swimming pool, indoor and outdoor thermal pools, a sauna park, and a medical department offering state-subsidised therapeutic treatments.

The water

The complex is supplied by a deep well at Bökény (well I. B-109) reaching 2,031 metres, from which water emerges at 80.2 °C. The site describes it as a moderate-mineral-content, sodium-hydrogen-carbonate water that is very soft and fluoridated, with a significant metasilicic acid content and total dissolved solids of 1,414 mg/l. Reported constituents include sodium (380 mg/l), hydrogen carbonate (988 mg/l), fluoride (1.61 mg/l), iron (0.2 mg/l) and sulphide (0.31 mg/l). The water carries the official "Csongrádi Gyógyvíz" (Csongrád Medicinal Water) designation, awarded in 2014.

Pools

The bath lists seven pools across its indoor building and outdoor grounds. Indoors are a training pool of 8 x 16 m at 32-33 °C, a wellness thermal pool of 5 x 7 m at 35 °C, a therapeutic thermal pool of 11 x 6 m at 34-35 °C, and a cold plunge pool of 2 x 2.5 m at 19-22 °C. Outdoors there is a 20 x 50 m swimming pool at 26-28 °C and a children's paddling pool with depths from 8 to 48 cm at 32-33 °C. A 400 m² experience pool, described as irregularly shaped and warmed to 35-38 °C, adds jet and leisure features. Several of the pools operate year-round with thermal water.

Sauna park and wellness

The sauna park includes a Finnish sauna running at about 80-90 °C with humidity up to roughly 10%, and an infrared sauna. Alongside these are an aroma cabin that diffuses essential oils, a salt room fitted with Himalayan salt bricks, a salt sandbox, salt lamps and a crystal salt ioniser, plus a vibro-solarium. Massage services are also offered.

Medical treatments

As a certified medicinal bath, the venue provides physiotherapy and balneotherapy, several treatments available with TB (state health insurance) subsidy. Listed treatments include therapeutic pool bathing, mud packs using Hévíz mud at 42 °C, traction (weight) baths, carbon dioxide baths, medical therapeutic massage, underwater jet massage, and supervised underwater group exercise. These target musculoskeletal and rheumatic conditions such as chronic joint inflammation, spinal and joint degeneration, disc problems and post-operative rehabilitation.

History

The 50-metre swimming pool was inaugurated on 28 May 1958, following the drilling of a cold-water well in 1957. A thermal well of 1,076 metres yielding 46 °C water was completed in 1960, and a hygiene bath with a 35 m² pool and two smaller basins opened on 5 November 1963. The site records later developments including a teaching pool in 1980, a thermal well refurbishment in 1996, and a major reconstruction around 2012 with a budget of roughly one billion forints, part-funded by the EU and the Hungarian state.

Visiting

The bath is located in Csongrád's city centre and offers additional amenities including a children's play house, an outdoor playground with a water slide, giant chess and skittles, a café/buffet, free parking, WiFi and a valuables storage service. The site publishes a seasonal opening schedule (a summer timetable from 1 April) and a price list, but the exact hours and ticket prices are provided only as downloadable images/PDF rather than as text.
