Thalassozentrum ahoi!
Thalassozentrum ahoi! in Cuxhaven-Duhnen is a year-round thalasso centre whose surf pool, outdoor pool and children's area are filled with real North Sea water, combined with a seven-cabin sauna landscape including a roof-terrace panorama sauna over the Wadden Sea.
About
Thalassozentrum ahoi! stands at Wehrbergsweg 32, 27476 Cuxhaven-Duhnen, on the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony, and is run by Nordseeheilbad Cuxhaven GmbH. The water is genuine seawater, not a brine mix: the operator writes that the heart of the wave bath is the surf pool “das mit echtem Meerwasser aus der Nordsee vor Cuxhaven gefüllt ist”, repeats the point in its own FAQ, and states that the outdoor pool with its current channel is filled with seawater as well. Cuxhaven is described as a North Sea and thalasso health resort using the natural forces of the North Sea — seawater, mud and salt-laden air — and the centre bundles a seawater wave bath, sauna and wellness areas, fitness, and spa-cure and prevention services on one site. The centre publishes no mineral analysis of the seawater and no numeric bathing temperature; it says only that the water is tempered so that bathing is pleasant in any season.
The bathing side is listed as a surf/wave pool, an outdoor pool, a Therme section, whirlpool areas and a children's paradise. Waves run in the surf pool at regular intervals. Attractions named are a current channel, bubbler loungers, a waterfall and cascade showers, and the giant slide “Cuxi-Slide” given as about 65 metres long. A particularly warm, separated children's area has shallow water zones and a water playground; a connection between the indoor and outdoor sections lets guests swim outside all year, though the outdoor pool has a winter closure. Operation is year round and weather-independent apart from roughly four weeks of maintenance closure for bath and sauna.
The sauna landscape carries the German Sauna Association's five-star premium designation, is textile-free, and can be used entirely separately from the bath — though every sauna tariff already includes full admission to the wave bath. The operator numbers seven cabins: the Löyly sauna, a Finnish infusion sauna at up to 90 °C; the Tuli sauna with an open glassed-in fire at up to 105 °C; the Panorama sauna on the roof terrace at up to 90 °C with a view over the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea; the Ruusu sauna with rose quartz at up to 80 °C; the Valo light and warm-air bath at about 60 °C and around 45 % humidity; a steam bath at 45 to 49 °C decorated with a stylised Kugelbake, Cuxhaven's landmark, with salt scrubs at set times; and a Kelo earth sauna, a log house half sunk into the ground built of polar Kelo timber, at up to 95 °C. The list heads the last cabin “Kelo-Sauna” while the description below calls it “Kelo-Erdsauna”. The outdoor sauna garden holds further cabins and two cold plunge pools; indoors there are a cold-water pool, an experience shower, an ice fountain, a warm bubble pool and a foot-warming pool, with lounging and retreat areas and infusions at fixed times. Children are recommended only from the completed eighth year.
Both the swimming bath and the sauna open daily 09:00–21:00, with bathing and sauna operation ending at 20:30; a closure period of 09.11.2026 to 06.12.2026 affects the bath and sauna. The beach-chair sauna (Strandkorbsauna) runs daily 09:30–20:30 at 59.00 €, and from 1 May to 31 October guests can reach the beach directly through the bathing area between 09:00 and 19:00. Published admission for the wave bath is 14.20 € (10.00 € with a guest card) for adults on the two-hour standard tariff and 19.20 €/15.00 € for a day ticket, 5.00 € for children aged 6 to 17, 2.00 € for children under 6, and 31.90 €/23.50 € for a family of two adults and two children. Sauna admission including the wave bath until 20:30 is 24.20 €/20.00 € for adults, 11.50 € for children aged 6 to 17 and 52.40 €/44.00 € for a family, with an evening sauna from 18:00 at 17.70 €/13.50 €. Cure and spa treatments, physiotherapy, massages and a fitness area operate in the same building, Kur & Spa Monday to Friday 08:00–16:00.
