Silber-Therme Warmbad

The Silber-Therme Warmbad is a thermal bath in Warmbad, a district of the mining town of Wolkenstein in the central Ore Mountains of Saxony. It is operated by Kur- und Gesundheitszentrum Warmbad Wolkenstein GmbH and takes its water from the Warmbad spring, which the operator describes as the warmest in Saxony at 26.5 °C and as the oldest and warmest thermal spring in the state still used balneologically. The spring is applied to disorders of the locomotor system and to cardiovascular conditions, and the state-recognised healing water can also be drunk at fountains in the therme foyer and in the spa park.

The Thermenwelt offers state-recognised thermal healing water at temperatures between 32 and 34 °C. It comprises an exercise pool at 33 °C with whirlpool, massage jets, bubble loungers, a waterfall and a water-treading basin; an outdoor pool at 34 °C with a current channel, neck showers, massage jets and bubble loungers; and a therapy pool at 32 °C used for free water gymnastics and aqua-fitness classes. Rest areas, an infrared sunning zone, a lawn and the Vital-Oase treatment area with collagen light therapy, hydromassage and a salt inhalation room complete the bathing level. A separate cold chamber, the ERZ-IGLU, applies whole-body cold therapy at -110 °C in sessions of up to three minutes.

The sauna landscape is themed on the region's mining and craft traditions and is a naturist area. It includes the Stollen sauna, an earth sauna set into the ground at 85 °C, a herb sauna at 65 °C, a Finnish sauna at 95 °C with infusions every half hour, a hut sauna at 95 °C with hourly infusions and a view over the sauna garden, a mill sauna at 55 °C with 55 per cent humidity, and a steam bath at 45 °C with humidity close to 100 per cent served by an ice fountain. A sauna garden, terrace, rest room, reading room and sauna bar adjoin.

The spring was found in the Middle Ages, probably during prospecting for silver ore, and the settlement is first documented in 1484 as "warmbate zu wulkenstein". A drainage adit built for Elector August in 1571 raised the spring temperature by diverting cold surface water, and a new spring capture in 1860/61 stabilised it at 29 °C. Uranium mining in the neighbouring Marienberg district between 1947 and 1954 caused the temperature to collapse to 7.2 °C before remediation work allowed it to recover. The Silber-Therme itself was commissioned in 2000 as a Kurmittelhaus, gained the Jungbrunnen wellness area in 2004 and a two-storey rest area in 2016; Warmbad has been a state-recognised Heilbad since 2016. The Thermenwelt opens daily from 09:00 to 22:00 and the sauna daily from 10:00 to 22:00.
