Landgrafen-Therme

The Landgrafen-Therme is a thermal brine bath (Thermalsolebad) in Bad Nenndorf, Lower Saxony, operated as part of the Niedersächsisches Staatsbad Nenndorf. The facility combines indoor and outdoor bathing areas with a sauna landscape, a sea-salt grotto and a wellness area, and is fed by a naturally sulphur- and iodine-bearing brine spring.

Thermal water and source

The bath draws on the Landgrafenquelle (also called the Neue Landgrafenquelle), a thermal sulphur-brine spring tapped at roughly 300 metres depth and piped to Bad Nenndorf from Soldorf. The site describes it as an iodine- and sulphur-containing thermal brine, ranked among the strongest brines in Europe and among the strongest sulphur-bearing springs in Central Europe. As stated, the source emerges at about 21°C with a sulphur content of around 140 mg/l, a brine concentration of about 17 percent and an iodine content of about 2 mg/l. The water is desulphurised before use, and the bathing water is warmed to approximately 33°C at a concentration of about 2.5 percent sodium chloride.

Pools and features

The therme offers indoor and outdoor bathing areas with variable lighting. A Meersalzgrotte (sea-salt grotto) runs 45-minute sessions. The site also lists wellness and spa services including massages, cosmetics, wellness packages and a hydrojet massage.

Sauna landscape

The clothing-free sauna landscape includes a steam bath (Dampfbad) at about 48°C using essential oils, three Finnish saunas at about 95/80/80°C, a Galerie sauna at about 75°C built from Kelo pine and using natural birch-twig infusions, and a Bionarium at about 50°C featuring changing light therapy. Scheduled infusion times (Aufgusszeiten) run through the day.

Health indications

According to the site, the thermal brine is indicated for skin conditions and skin care, respiratory and airway complaints, joint and muscle complaints, chronic rheumatic conditions, asthma, neurodermatitis and strengthening the immune system. It advises against bathing for those with acute cardiac conditions, open wounds, fever, after a stroke, during rheumatic flare-ups or with venous inflammation.

Dining

An on-site Thermenbistro serves breakfast, hot and cold meals, beverages and desserts, open Tuesday to Sunday 09:00–19:00.

Opening hours and prices

The bath is open Monday 12:00–21:00, Tuesday–Friday 08:00–21:00 and Saturday–Sunday 10:00–21:00 (last admission one hour before closing). The sauna landscape opens Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–21:00, with Monday reserved as a women's sauna from 13:00–21:00. A three-hour bathing ticket is €15.00 for adults and €6.00 for children (ages 4–16); a combined four-hour bath-and-sauna ticket is €26.00 for adults and €10.00 for children, with reduced early-swimmer and evening tariffs also offered.
