Keidel Therme

Keidel Therme is a thermal bath at Freiburg im Breisgau in Baden-Württemberg, at the address An den Heilquellen. It is one of the German therms whose water needs neither heating nor cooling for the hottest pool.

The water

The Kurt-Sauer-Quelle, sunk in 1976, reaches about 850 metres and delivers water at 45 to 46 °C at the surface, up to 120,000 m³ a year. Its hardness is 128 °dH, which the venue notes is more than ten times that of Freiburg tap water at 8 to 12 °dH. In Germany the designation Thermalwasser requires groundwater above 20 °C where it emerges. According to the venue the water is used for circulatory, musculoskeletal and rheumatic complaints.

Indoor pools

The source pool is the hottest at about 40 °C. Beside it the indoor pool and the warm pool run at about 33-35 °C, the treatment and fitness pools at about 32-34 °C, and the pearl pool cooler, at about 30-32 °C. Rest areas, experience showers and infrared cabins are part of the same hall.

Outdoor pools

The experience pool outside is held at about 34-38 °C with massage jets and air bubbles, the outdoor pool at about 33-36 °C, and the 25-metre swimming pool at about 29-34 °C, with a current channel between them. The grounds have a large sunbathing lawn, a children's playground, a badminton net, a barefoot path and a Kneipp basin.

Visiting

The bath opens daily, including public holidays, from 09:00 to 21:00, with the sauna from 10:00 to 21:00; on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve it closes at 14:00. There is a sauna and the building has step-free access.
