About

Bizovačke toplice is a spa and water park at Bizovac in eastern Croatia, some 20 km north-west of Osijek in the Slavonian plain. Its water was found by accident in 1967 during drilling, and the operator describes the resulting thermomineral water as reaching 96 °C at the wellhead, calling it the hottest iodine hypertthermal brine water in Europe. The water is roughly three times as salty as sea water and additionally carries iron, iodine and other minerals; the operator relates it to the vanished Pannonian Sea and lists indications for skin conditions such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, rheumatic disease, and respiratory complaints. A separate rehabilitation institution, Lječilište Bizovačke toplice, operates alongside the public bathing complex, but the bathing ticket itself includes use of the thermal pools and no prescription is required.

The bathing complex is marketed as Aquapolis and splits into an indoor and an outdoor world. The indoor pools cover 1,400 m² and comprise a semi-Olympic pool, a recreation pool, a massage pool with hydro and air jets, a whirlpool, a children's pool and a thermal pool. Water attractions indoors include water and air massages, an air geyser, reclining air massage beds, a music cave and a water curtain. The operator states that the temperature of the indoor thermal pool moves between 35 and 37 °C and that of the outdoor thermal pool between 33 and 35 °C, and that in the summer months one indoor thermal pool is in service.

The outdoor bathing area works in the summer months. It centres on the open-air thermal pool, 1.30 m deep, and a wave pool of 2,400 m² with swimmer and non-swimmer sections, depths from 0 to 1.80 m and eight wave patterns up to about one metre high; the wave pool and the outdoor part of the recreation pool are closed during the winter period. A thousand sun loungers and parasols are included in the ticket, as is the use of extensive sports grounds — beach and concrete volleyball, table tennis, five-a-side football, a full grass pitch, handball, basketball and a clay tennis court. Relaxation is handled by a private relax zone with a Finnish sauna at between 80 and 85 °C, showers and a rest room, bookable by the hour, plus three medical massage options.

The complex opens Monday to Friday and on Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00 and on Saturday from 10:00 to midnight for night bathing, and works on all public holidays. Two closures are current: the 112-metre indoor water slide is stated to be out of service until further notice, and the outdoor slide is likewise out of service for technical reasons.
