Therme Aqualux

Therme Aqualux is a thermal bath in Fohnsdorf, in the Murtal region of Styria. The operator divides the house into two parts: an adventure area aimed at families, with pools, a current channel and slides, and a quieter sauna and relaxation wing on the same site that it calls the VitaDome. The site describes the pools as filled with warm thermal water and gives its indoor thermal pool as around 36 °C. German Wikipedia's article on Fohnsdorf records that Dietrich Mateschitz took over the Aqualux Therme in 2021.

Pools and slides

In the adventure area the operator names a competition-standard sports pool that it gives as 25 metres long and 10 metres wide and describes as usable for instruction, a wave pool, a current channel, a family pool with a massage area, and a separate children's pool it presents as a protected area for the youngest visitors. There is a slide indoors and a further slide outdoors, and the site names a play ship, AQUALUXIA. Outside, it lists climbing and jumping structures and water fountains for children. The site does not publish a pool count or a total water area.

Sauna and wellness

The VitaDome is the sauna and relaxation wing, and the operator lists each cabin with its temperature and humidity: a panorama sauna, a Finnish outdoor cabin at 80 to 100 °C and 15 to 30 per cent humidity whose windows look towards Schloss Gabelhofen and the surrounding mountains; a dry wood sauna at 80 to 100 °C and 15 to 35 per cent; a sanarium at 50 to 60 °C and about 30 per cent, worked with herbal scents; a steam bath at 42 °C and 100 per cent humidity; and an infrared cabin at 45 °C and 20 per cent humidity that the site says is laid out for two people. Water in this part of the house is an indoor thermal pool at around 36 °C in an adults-only relaxation area, an outdoor thermal pool with loungers, and a cold pool at around 18 °C for cooling after the sauna. The operator reports a recent refurbishment that added a further infrared cabin with salt stones, a shower-walk cooling passage and a stalagmite feature.

For children

The operator runs swimming courses in the thermal water: baby swimming from the age of three months in the activity pool at around 34 °C, in ten sessions of 30 minutes, and toddler swimming from the age of two in ten sessions of 45 minutes. It also offers aqua fitness in both shallow and deep water, with sessions published for several fixed times in the week. Children's birthday parties are bookable from age 6 and from a party of five children, on weekdays outside public holidays and the autumn, winter and semester school breaks, and include four hours in the adventure area and a meal.

Eating and staying

The site lists an a-la-carte restaurant and a self-service restaurant on the premises. The operator does not run its own hotel but publishes a list of partner accommodations with their distance from the bath, several of which it marks as including thermal-bath admission; the nearest of these is Schloss Gabelhofen, which the list gives as one kilometre away.

Opening hours

The operator gives the adventure area as 9:30 to 21:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, with last admission at 20:45, and 9:30 to 22:00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with last admission at 21:45. The VitaDome follows the same closing times, with the saunas themselves running from 10:00.
