Hotel Balneari de Vallfogona de Riucorb

Hotel Balneari de Vallfogona de Riucorb is a spa hotel in the Conca de Barbera, in the Tarragona province of Catalonia. According to the operator it stands 1.5 km from the village of Vallfogona de Riucorb and was founded in 1901 to exploit the mineral-medicinal waters that had been known in the area since the 19th century and were declared of public utility in 1903. The site states that the hotel building has been under continuous renovation since 1992. The spa and the hotel share one building, set in a private landscaped park. The operator notes that pets are not admitted.

Mineral water

The operator describes the waters of Vallfogona de Riucorb as chloride, sodium-sulphate, calcium and magnesium waters with traces of hydrogen sulphide, and calls them “aigües mineromedicinals”. According to the site, the water of the “Font Gran” and the “Font Nova” comes from underground springs and is channelled to the balneario area, where it supplies the various water services. The operator states that the hydro-mineral cure it can offer with this water is effective for the liver, for arthritic and rheumatic conditions, for psoriasis and eczema, for nutritional disorders such as constipation, dyspepsia and gastritis, and for respiratory complaints.

Pools and water treatments

The site lists a thermal balneario pool with jets, bubbles, swan-neck spouts, counter-current swimming and chromotherapy, alongside individual and hydromassage bathtubs, pressure and circular showers, inhalations, a vaporarium and footbaths. The operator describes the spa installations and application techniques as modern. The private landscaped park around the building also has an outdoor pool, which the site says is available in July and August, together with petanque courts and a children's playground.

Treatments

Besides the water services, the operator lists mud therapy, parafango and paraffin applications, pressotherapy, geomineral therapy, and beauty and aesthetic services. The massage list covers partial and full-body massage, foot reflexology, partial and full lymphatic drainage, Reiki, Korean, Californian and under-shower massage. For guests staying at the hotel the site offers programmes for rheumatology, respiratory conditions and psoriasis, as well as weekend relaxation, anti-stress, back, tired-legs, detox and weight-loss programmes, and weekly, Monday-to-Friday and twelve-day forfaits.

Hotel and dining

According to the site the hotel has 89 rooms, all with bathtub or shower, telephone, flat-screen TV, heating and a safe, and divided into Premium and Confort categories; the operator states that all of them have been refurbished, most with exposed stone finishes. Listed facilities include a restaurant, a function room for banquets and conventions, a cafeteria, TV and games rooms and a socio-cultural activity programme. The restaurant serves home-style Catalan cooking made with local produce, with a buffet menu and a daily menu on weekdays and separate menus for weekends, public holidays and their eves, as well as an à la carte option.

The operator does not publish daily opening hours for the baths. The site carries a notice that the hotel is closed until 26 April 2026.
