Terme di Chianciano

Terme di Chianciano is an integrated thermal spa complex in the town of Chianciano Terme, in Tuscany. The site groups together several facilities dedicated to wellness, health and prevention, including the Piscine Termali Theia, the Terme Sensoriali, the Acqua Santa Park, the I Sillene plant for spa treatments, a Medical Centre and the Palestra della Salute. Its thermal waters were already known and appreciated in antiquity.

Thermal water and its sources

The hydrothermal heritage of Terme di Chianciano is drawn from four separate springs, each of bicarbonate-sulphate-calcium composition with its own characteristics and use: Acqua Santa, Acqua Fucoli, Acqua Santissima and Acqua Sillene. Their applications range from drinking (hydropinic) cures to balneotherapy, inhalation treatments and thermal mud baths.

• Acqua Santa is the spring historically taken by drinking cure for the wellbeing of the liver and digestive system, acting directly on the liver and digestion.
• Acqua Fucoli has a gentler, more progressive action, indicated in particular for the intestine, regularity and irritable bowel.
• Acqua Santissima is used mainly for inhalation treatments such as aerosols, inhalations and nasal showers, indicated to promote wellbeing of the respiratory tract and to relieve conditions such as rhinitis, sinusitis and chronic inflammation of the airways.
• Acqua Sillene is naturally hot at 38.5°C and is used for thermal baths, mud baths and balneotherapy, indicated for muscular-articular and vascular wellbeing and for relieving tension, stiffness and chronic pain. It is the same water that feeds the Theia Thermal Pools.

Theia Thermal Pools

The Piscine Termali Theia are fed by naturally warm thermal water, with a temperature in the tanks of between 33°C and 36°C. There are four outdoor and three indoor connected pools, extending over some 600 m², whose waters are rich in carbon dioxide, calcium carbonate, bicarbonate and sulfates. Admission includes thermal pools with water jets and whirlpools alongside the wellness areas and relaxation zones.

Wellness circuit and children's area

The wellness route comprises a Finnish sauna, a Turkish bath, a rasul, experience (emotional) showers, a Finnish shower with ice bucket and relaxation areas for resting after immersion in the thermal water. Children do not have access to the adult areas but are given a dedicated space with a temperature-controlled dry grotto and wet grotto, emotional showers and pools designed for the youngest visitors.

Visiting

The pool complex can be accessed directly without a reservation, with a range of ticket options including daily entrances, four-hour entries and family discounts, differentiated between weekdays (Monday to Friday) and weekends and holidays (Saturday, Sunday and holidays). On Saturday evenings, from 7:30 PM to midnight, the pools host an atmospheric thermal experience with steam, soft lighting and live music. The Piscine Termali Theia are located in Piazza Marconi, on the Via della Foresta side.

History

According to the venue, the thermal springs of Chianciano were appreciated as far back as the 6th century BC by the Etruscans, and the site became renowned during the Roman Empire. On the hill known as Sillene, remains of bath structures, lead pipes and notable statuary have been found, testifying to the ancient use of the waters.
