About
La Cerreta Terme is a thermal spa and biodynamic agriturismo set in the Poggio Neri forest at Via della Cerreta 7 in Sassetta, in the province of Livorno, Tuscany. It is built around genuine thermal water that flows naturally from an underground basin beneath the property, and it operates as an authorised thermal facility (authorisation D.M. n. 3927 of 21/10/2009) under a designated healthcare director, Dott.ssa Antonella Nicosia.
Thermal water
The water emerges at a constant temperature of 51 C and is classified by the venue as salt-sulphate-calcium hyperthermal water. Stated mineral content includes 942 mg/l of sulphates and 340 mg/l of calcium, alongside further minerals and trace elements. The venue reports that it has replaced chlorine treatment with an oxygen-based purification system in order to preserve the quality of the thermal water.
Pools and water features
The bathing area comprises an indoor balneotherapy pool at 38 C and two outdoor balneotherapy pools, one at 36 C and one at 30-32 C, all fitted with whirlpools and waterfalls. There are also hydro-massage stations targeting the neck, back and feet, together with cascading features running between the pools.
Wellness circuit
Beyond the pools the spa offers a river-stone steam room, an aromatherapy bio-sauna scented with natural essences, emotional showers with chromotherapy, a Kneipp path alternating hot and cold water, and relaxation areas with sunbeds and a solarium.
Treatments
The spa provides a range of face and body treatments, holistic treatments, and therapies inspired by Etruscan and Roman traditions.
Indications
The venue cites a 2016 scientific report by the University of Pisa according to which balneotherapy with this water has beneficial effects on osteoporosis of the knee, hip and spine, with reported improvements in energy, emotional stability, physical mobility and sleep quality. The water is also described as beneficial for respiratory, skin and musculoskeletal health.
The farmhouse
La Cerreta is also a biodynamic farm and agriturismo. It offers guest accommodation across five farmhouses (casali) with a total of 17 rooms, an on-site restaurant and osteria, and its own wine and farm products.
Opening hours and admission
For the 2024-2025 season the baths ran timed sessions: on weekdays four-hour slots from 10:00 to 14:00 or 15:00 to 19:00, and on weekends and holidays three-hour slots (for example 09:30-12:30, 11:00-14:00, 13:30-17:30 or 17:00-20:00).
