About
Krauma is a bathing complex beside Deildartunguhver in Reykholt, West Iceland, a spring the operator calls the highest-volume hot spring in Europe. It flows at 180 litres per second and comes up at around 100 °C, so it is blended with cold water from Rauðsgil, a nearby glacial river, to bring it to bathing temperature without chemicals. The water carries iron, aluminium, calcium, magnesium and sulphur, along with algae.
There are five hot pools from about 37 to 41 °C and a cold plunge pool at around 5 to 10 °C, their basins built from volcanic stone and wood. Two saunas, a steam bath and an infrared cell at 35–55 °C complete the circuit; the steam comes from spring water sprayed under the benches. A relaxation room has a fireplace.
The restaurant has seating indoors and on a terrace and cooks with produce from named farms in Borgarbyggð, including salmon, goat meat, beef and vegetables.
