Kalocsai Uszoda és Gyógyfürdő

The Kalocsai Uszoda és Gyógyfürdő, historically known as the Csajda bath, is a municipal swimming-pool and medicinal-bath complex in the town of Kalocsa in southern Hungary (Csajda kert / Csajda u. 1, 6300 Kalocsa). It is operated by the town's asset-management company (Kalocsai Vagyonhasznosítási és Könyvvezető Nonprofit Kft.) and grew out of a thermal spring that has supplied the site since the late 1920s.

Pools

The bath has a large pool measuring 25 × 12.5 m with a depth of 1.7–1.8 m and a water temperature of 26–28 °C, and a smaller pool of 12.5 × 6 m, 0.8 m deep, kept warmer at 28–30 °C. The original 1933 open-air pool measured 106 × 33 m, later extended with a 33.3 m section. A covered pool facility was added in 1987.

Thermal water

The site's original artesian well, tapped in 1927, delivered about 120 litres per minute at 35 °C. A 1964 research drilling reached thermal water at a depth of 1003 m with a temperature of 70 °C. The water carries a high mineral content, which according to the town's own account is too concentrated for direct use.

Facilities

Alongside the pools the complex offers a sauna. It has long served as a venue for competitive swimming and water polo; the town notes that Olympic swimming champion Ferenc Csík competed here in 1937 and that swimmer Vera Harsányi is also associated with the bath.

History

A bathhouse first opened on the site in June 1927. The city purchased the facility on 18 May 1929 for 21,000 pengő, and after renovation it reopened on 5 June 1933, being renamed Tomori fürdő later that month. The covered pool facility followed on 14 December 1987, and the therapeutic (medicinal) bathhouse was established in early 2002.

Current development

The bath is undergoing an energy-modernisation project (TOP_PLUSZ-2.1.1-21-BK1-2024-00054), funded with 1 billion Hungarian forints and targeted for completion by 31 July 2027. Planned works include wall and floor insulation, window replacement, a new thermal well, upgraded ventilation and heating, pool-water treatment improvements, and a 50 kW photovoltaic system.

Opening hours

The pool operates Monday and Wednesday–Friday from 8:00 to 21:00 (with early-morning lane swimming 6:00–8:00 for pass holders), Saturday 6:00/8:00–20:00, and Sunday 10:00–21:00; it is closed on Tuesdays.
