Allwetterbad

The Allwetterbad is a year-round indoor and outdoor bath in Osterholz-Scharmbeck in Lower Saxony, north of Bremen, at Am Barkhof next to the town's school campus. Its distinguishing feature is a movable roof over the 50-metre pool: the operator states that the three-segment Carbio roof, whose construction was modelled on the covered dry docks of shipbuilding, can be drawn back telescopically in twenty minutes, turning the hall into an open-air bath, and describes the arrangement as unique in the north German bathing landscape for decades. No thermal, mineral or brine water is published: a search of the operator's pages for Thermalwasser, Heilwasser, Mineralwasser, Quelle and "staatlich anerkannt" returns nothing. The one hit for Sole is the Solebad inside the sanarium, which the operator describes as a salt-laden air climate with an illuminated salt crystal wall, that is a dry salt cabin rather than brine bathing water.

The main basin is a multi-purpose pool heated to 28 degrees Celsius with eight lanes, five of them 33 metres and three 50 metres long, and depths from 0.75 metres in the non-swimmer section to 4.00 metres under the diving platforms; a rock reef separates the diving area, which has 3-metre and 5-metre towers and a one-metre board, from the swimming lanes. A separate massage and leisure pool of 300 square metres is held at 32 degrees and carries a current channel, two back massages, four underwater massages, two bubblers and six underwater bubble loungers, and an outdoor swim-out channel connects it to a year-round heated outdoor pool. Small children have an indoor paddling pool at 34 degrees with a slide and a changing room, and a second paddling pool outdoors; a shallow Kneipp basin is provided for cold water treading. A lawn and a sun terrace adjoin the outdoor pools.

The sauna landscape holds six differently heated cabins with hourly infusions: a Kelo log-cabin sauna at 100 degrees built from Finnish polar pine, a Loftsauna at 85 degrees seating thirty people, two Finnish saunas at 100 and 90 degrees, a sanarium at 55 degrees combining light therapy with the salt-air Solebad, and the Dampfbad Royal at 40 degrees with heated seats and a fibre-optic star ceiling. Cooling is by a plunge pool, sensory showers and an outdoor cold-water pool 1.35 metres deep and large enough to swim in. Rest areas include loungers and a fireplace corner, and the operator calls the complex one of the largest and at the same time cheapest sauna facilities in the greater Bremen area. Mixed textile-free sauna hours alternate with reserved times for women and for men. Massage, solariums and the Bocadillo restaurant are on site.

The bath is open all year. The saunas take a summer break from 6 July to 20 September 2026 for energy reasons, and the whole bath, all sections included, closes for maintenance from 21 September to 11 October 2026. It also closes on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, 3 October, Christmas Eve, both Christmas days, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. A visitor traffic light on the operator's site reports remaining capacity on busy sunny days, and a discount card, swimming courses and children's birthday packages are sold alongside single admissions.
