About
Overview
Set at 6 place des Thermes in Néris-les-Bains (Allier, Auvergne), the Thermes de Néris-les-Bains is a medicinal thermal establishment offering conventional, social-security-supported cures across three specialities. The town describes itself as France's leading destination for the neurology cure, and the spa combines its accredited medical treatments with health-prevention and wellness activities.
The Thermal Water
The spring water flows deep underground, where it takes on rare elements and minerals before emerging at the surface at 53°C. It is an oligomineral, bicarbonate water that is exceptionally rich in lithium, holding one of the highest lithium contents of any French thermal water. This lithium content gives the water its relaxing, sedative and pain-relieving qualities, which the establishment presents as a natural aid to calm, emotional balance and inner stability.
Medical Indications
The Thermes offer three cure orientations. In rheumatology, the treatments address osteoarthritis in its various locations, inflammatory rheumatism and the after-effects of trauma. The psychosomatic cure covers neuroses, depressive states, asthenia, insomnia, anxiety and stress. The neurology cure is indicated for disorders of the peripheral nerves and of central origin, including the sequelae of shingles and of stroke. Alongside these, the spa runs dedicated programmes for Parkinson's disease (in partnership with the France Parkinson association), fibromyalgia and chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, and burnout.
History
The town's history is bound to its prized springs, which were valued by the Romans, who established two thermal complexes here and, in the town's period of renown, built temples, aqueducts, villas and an amphitheatre. The present thermal establishment was built in the 19th century on the ruins of these ancient baths.
Visiting
The thermal cures run for a defined season each year (for example, 31 March to 25 October in 2025). The establishment's telephone reception is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 12pm and 2pm to 5pm.
