A purpose-built thermal resort at Châtel-Guyon in the Auvergne volcano country, combining a medical cure centre for digestive and rheumatic conditions with a 150 m² thermal pool spa, a residence and a restaurant on one site.

About

Aïga Resort Thermal & Spa stands at Châtel-Guyon, inside the regional natural park of the Auvergne volcanoes and about twenty minutes from Clermont-Ferrand. It is a single-site complex rather than a bath house alone: a licensed cure establishment, a thermal spa, a four-star tourist residence of ninety apartments connected directly to the spa, and a restaurant. Its construction was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund together with the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the Riom Limagne et Volcans agglomeration and the commune of Châtel-Guyon.

The water comes from several springs beneath the town and, according to the operator, all of them share the same composition — chloro-bicarbonated calcic — while differing slightly in temperature and concentration. It is described as the richest in magnesium in Europe and strongly loaded with silicon and trace elements, with a pH between 6.7 and 6.9. Spring temperatures span roughly 19 to 37 °C depending on the source. The water does not travel: on contact with air its dissolved carbon dioxide escapes and the carbonates precipitate, so it has to be used close to the point of emergence. Treatment covers digestive, urinary and rheumatological indications, and the house speciality is what it calls thermalism of the intestinal microbiota; the operator cites clinical work on irritable bowel syndrome carried out on cure guests between 2018 and 2019.

The spa side is generously equipped. The treatment areas hold seven massage cabins, one of them fitted with a heated quartz-sand massage bed, and nineteen water or wet-treatment cabins for baths, showers and wraps. The bathing circuit centres on a 150 m² thermal pool with swan-neck jets, a counter-current swimming lane and submerged loungers, alongside an outdoor whirlpool, two hammams, two experiential showers, an outdoor solarium, a herbal tea room, a Wood-light relaxation room, a cardio and fitness room and a separate aquabike pool. Because of the properties of the Châtel-Guyon water, the spa admits adults only: under-sixteens and pregnant women are not accepted.
