Nové lázně

Nové Lázně (New Baths) is the historic bathhouse of Mariánské Lázně, today run as a five-star Ensana hotel, and the operator calls it the largest historical balneotherapy facility in the Czech Republic. It states that the Forest Spring and the Ambrose Spring are piped directly into the building and form the foundation of its spa care, rehabilitation and diagnostics, including oxygen therapy. Both are cold carbonated mineral waters rather than thermal ones: on the operator's springs overview the Ambrose Spring is given at 9-11 °C with a mineral content of about 3,800 mg/l of the bicarbonate-sodium type and indications for chronic gastritis, stomach ulcers, irritable bowel and heartburn, while the Forest Spring, housed in the neighbouring Centrální Lázně building, is given at 7-9 °C and about 4,800 mg/l, iron-bearing and sulphate in type, used for upper respiratory conditions, chronic bronchitis, asthma and allergies as well as for inhalation. The Marienbad waters as a whole are described as rising from the volcanic subsoil of the Slavkov Forest through tectonic faults, all of them rich in natural carbon dioxide; the nearby Maria Spring is a vent of almost pure CO2 used for dry gas baths and gas injections.

The centrepiece is the Roman Baths hall. The operator lists twenty-one columns of dark-red Salzburg marble with capitals of white Carrara stone, gilded spouts shaped as lion heads, coloured majolica tiling, a glazed ceiling running the length of the hall, and the pools as two original ones plus a third with a counter-current added in the modern restoration. Two operator pages disagree about what fills them: the anniversary page calls the two original basins "mineral-water pools", while the Roman Baths page states that the pools hold ordinary water, only more gently chlorinated than a standard swimming pool, with mineral water reserved for the tub baths. A modern wellness area adjoins the historic hall, listed as a sauna at 80 °C, a steam bath and Kneipp therapy; the operator gives no total sauna count.

Two private bathing cabins survive and are still used for specialist balneotherapy, mineral baths and mud wraps. The Royal Cabin belonged to Edward VII, who the operator says visited Marienbad nine times, and keeps its copper steam boiler, historic heater, majolica tiles, bird paintings, a wooden chair with a built-in mechanical scale and painted glass panels from the Tyrolean Geyling workshop in the loggia doors. The Imperial Cabin carries the name of Franz Joseph I.

The building came out of a capacity crisis. The railway reached the town in 1872 and visitor numbers outgrew the old New Baths, which had 42 cabins including those for the "steel baths" in the iron-rich Ambrose Spring water. Abbot Alfred Clemens decided on the rebuilding and financed it; Marienbad-born architect Josef Schaffer designed it after Italian Renaissance models seen in Venice, Bologna and Florence, and construction ran from 1892 to 1896, always in winter so as not to disturb the season. The ceremonial opening took place on 1 June 1896, and the abbot's initials A. C. and A. T. are still carved into the pediment. The operator dates the house's ancestry to the Neubad founded by Abbot Karl Kašpar Reitenberger in 1828 with sixteen bathing cabins and ten guest rooms, and the town's first spa season to 1808. Nové Lázně is joined with Centrální Lázně, Maria Spa, Hvězda, Neapol and Imperial into a single 5,900 m2 complex linked by covered corridors; Mariánské Lázně has been UNESCO World Heritage since 2021 and has held climatic spa status since 2023.

The Roman Baths are not a pay-per-entry public pool. Guests of Nové Lázně and Centrální Lázně have access as part of their stay, Hvězda guests with a stay of more than three nights, and visitors not staying are admitted only on tickets sold on site for two slots a day, at 11:00 and 14:00, subject to occupancy; the operator states that advance reservations by e-mail or telephone are not accepted and that entry cannot be guaranteed for a particular day. Selected treatments are also available on an outpatient basis after a doctor's appointment booked through the spa reception.
