Caldea

Caldea is a thermal complex in Escaldes-Engordany, next to Andorra la Vella. It stands over the springs that gave the parish its name: escaldes means the scalding waters.

The springs come up at 70 °C and are filtered and cooled before they reach the lagoons. Its published analysis gives sodium 36 mg/l, silica 36 mg/l, sulphates 21 mg/l, chlorides 6 mg/l, calcium 4.1 mg/l, fluoride 3.8 mg/l and potassium 2 mg/l, with traces of iron, ammonia, magnesium and aluminium. It describes the water as sodic, sulphurous, saline and oily, with thermal plankton, and lists it as analgesic, healing, decongestant and anti-allergic.

A large indoor thermal lagoon lies under the glass, with outdoor pools facing the mountains, and there are grottos, jets, Roman and Icelandic baths, a hammam and saunas, massage and beauty treatments, and two restaurants. Entry is timed and booked with the venue, either to the general Classic areas or to Premium, a separate level for adults only.
