Ессентукская грязелечебница им. Н.А. Семашко (Ессентукская Бальнеогрязелечебница)

The Yessentuki Mud Baths (Gryazelechebnitsa) named after N.A. Semashko, together with the Upper (Nikolaevskie/Imperial) Baths, form a large public balneotherapy and mud-therapy complex in the Kavminvody resort town of Yessentuki that has treated visitors for more than 110 years. The two historic buildings are federal architectural heritage monuments.

Curative mud & mineral water

• Tambukan mud - therapeutic sulphide silt mud from Lake Tambukan is applied as full-body wraps and targeted applications for joints, face and gums, plus mud tampons.
• Mineral water - two natural balneological waters are used: a carbonated mineral water piped from wells about 6 km away, and a self-flowing carbonated hydrogen-sulphide water from a well 200 m from the building.

Baths & balneology

• Carbon-dioxide, hydrogen-sulphide and mineral baths, and sulphur-alkaline mineral baths.
• Underwater shower-massage, Charcot shower, turpentine and herbal baths, whirlpool baths for the limbs.
• Mineral-water irrigations (face, eyes, hair, gums, intestinal and gynaecological), plus ozone therapy, inhalations, phytotherapy, massage and cosmetology.

The historic Upper Baths (built 1898) retain marble bathtubs carved from single blocks of Carrara marble, in which the mineral water cools very slowly. The facility operates 71 cabins with capacity for roughly 2,000 procedures per day, and sits within the resort's Kurortny (spa) district.
